Jack Kent Cooke Transfer Scholarship Applicants 2019-2020

@JellyPeeps glad to hear that. Did have an interview before? Good luck.

@RainbowBritey I have applied to EWS. So we should hear from them anytime sooner then? Thanks a lot for your reply.

@Dreambbig I have not had an interview. I reread my application and I am not sure if I feel more or less confident. Ha, ha. I read it and then I was like… wow, I sound pretty awesome! My next thought was, wow, I don’t sound ALL that awesome. LOL. I guess we will see how that goes.

@RainbowBritey Wow this thread has really had some action since I last checked. The winners were announced and unfortunately, I was not a finalist, but being a semifinalist for the ALL USA scholarship was a huge honor itself. Yes, I made my state academic team! I am proud to say that I just returned home from Catalysts and my chapter one most distinguished chapter !!

@dreambbig I am SO HAPPY you were able to attend that meeting and find out this information. I was also at catalyst but super busy with my team preparing and helping our candidate who was running for Division I international VP. I saw the session listed and really wanted to attend. I hope you had an amazing Catalyst experience. I spoke with a few other semifinalists there that go similar feedback from the foundation as well. Regardless of all of these scholarships, I have realized through Catalyst that we truly are all winners. I had a life changing experience this year and I hope you did as well. Best of luck to you with everything !!!

P.S what region are you from?

@Kmag22 I am from Arizona, and you?. Yeah, just keep the positive vibe. Wishing you best of luck.

Update for yall guys!! Recieved an email from jkcf saying that final recipients will b announced on April 22nd ? best of luck to everyone !!

@Noor46 thanks for the update. Between them and Goldwater they both pushed their notifications dates so late this year. I am starting to lose hope here.

I can feel you!! I’m so stressed bc of it too

@Noor46 Thanks for the info. I am happy to have a date to look forward to, for sure. Hopefully between now and then I will get all my other application materials in and won’t have to worry about chasing documents!

I’m happy you’re still busy lol. I just can’t find anything to do!! The wait is killing now

I know. I am SUPER stressed about it all, lol. I am not sure how people do it all and keep a level head.

hello, @JellyPeeps. I’m currently a second-year community college student in Southern New Jersey. I’ve seen a few of your posts on transfer threads for this upcoming Fall. I see that you attended college in the past and you mentioned that you either did poorly or dropped out. It’s increduble to see how far you’ve come while at community college. Kudos! Before attending community college, I did attend one semester at a four-year school, but I did very poorly. I majored in Biology, a major I thought I would enjoy, but I didn’t. I know JCK transfer scholars aren’t eligible if they did attend a four-year school even for one semester. The school you attended in the past, was it a four-year by chance?

@FCBarca10 Thanks! I only attended community colleges because I was expelled from high school in 10th grade. I had a rocky home life and some disciplinary problems.

According to the FAQs on the website:

Students who have enrolled in a four-year institution previously but did not complete a semester of full-time study may be eligible. Please contact us to discuss your situation.

I say it is always worth the risk to apply. Worst case scenario, they tell you that you are not eligible. Best case, they agree to waive that semester based on other factors.

Good luck to you!

@JellyPeeps absolutely, thank you! I started community college roughly 3-4 years ago and struggled because I couldn’t fully commit myself. But, in the Fall I took five classes and was able to get a 3.75 GPA and this semester has been going well too. I was a Biology major when I first registered back in 2015, but last semester, I changed it to a dual-major: Political Science and Communications.

In regards to ECs, since July of 2017, I’ve been writing for a basketball blog based in Europe. I attend 76ers home games on a weekly basis. I’ve done multiple interviews with NBA players and even an exclusive interview last May. I’m hoping to display that the best way I can on my application. For my work experience, I’ve worked as a restaurant manager and I currently work at a bank.

I’m also looking to take summer courses at Rutgers NB this Summer and hopefully joining PTK and my school’s Honors program this Fall. How do you chances will stand by the time I apply for the JKC for the 2019-2020 year?

@Dreambbig I am from the middle states region … I live in New Jersey. Did you enjoy Catalyst ?

@FCBarca10 Hey, I don’t think it is possible to chance you until you submit the application. My advice to you is to reach for the moon and never settle, because if you fail to reach the moon, you’ll at least be among the stars! (Cheesy, yes, I know.)

I currently am a semifinalist but unfortunately, my family needs me more than ever due to some problems so I won’t be transferring this year. I don’t think I will win the scholarship either right now, but I will be applying next year and I am going to continue to strive to become an even more competitive applicant for next year. Good luck!

Hi @Noor46 – Thanks for the update! Had you emailed the foundation asking for the date or did they just send you the update out of the blue?

@EhBeSeas I emailed them!!! ??

@Noor46 Awesome! Thank you for doing that and sharing the info with us! Now we can officially count down the days!
