At this point, peeps, I want to say congratulations to all the semifinalists for coming this far and doing well enough to be selected to be a part of such a prestigious group. And for anyone who wins, well done!
Everyone should be tremendously proud to have made it this far!!
Hi all! I am a 2018 UT Cooke. Just a word of advice, breathe… sometimes your school doesn’t get the information to the right place to get to you. My CC President was with me when she found out, and she didn’t tell me because I had a huge speech to give at another banquet. I found out the next day right before the press release via email from JKCF. Congrats to you all for making it this far. This is a huge accomplishment alone, but don’t panic. If they gave you that date, hold out hope until that date.
Hey all! I am a 2016 UT Scholar and 2019 graduate scholar here to wish you all the best of luck. I know all the feels you’re experiencing right now.
I want to draw on points made by others that you are all amazing and accomplished individuals. JKCF advisers are “traveling” this week, which means they are suprising new Scholars. Next week is the week! No matter what happens, know your accomplishments are impressive and your life is already changing, and in the process you are changing the lives of others. That is what it is all about
I also want to draw on a post in the semifi FB group about leveraging your semifinalist status on college apps: DO IT regardless of the outcome. I extend this to include reaching out to Cooke Scholars and Alum to ask for advice and opportunities, for school or work. The most incredible thing about the Cooke family is everyone’s commitment to opening access to upward mobility through a network of compassionate individuals. Wondering what classes someone took to get where they are, why, and what they learned? Looking for scholarships, fellowships, internships, job openings in a specific area? I can’t think of any Cookie I know who wouldn’t take a few moments to help a semifi out.
Why? Because we know deeply and unerringly that there are individuals out there who are smarter, kinder more hard working than us but did not have access to the opportunity we’ve had, and that is just wrong.
So continue to support one another, share info and opportunities, and most importantly, demand a seat at the table. And if anyone is reapplying next year, reach out to Scholars for mentoring, advice, essay revision, etc. There’s a FB page for that, too!
Stay positive! You are good enough.
reposting because I wrote F in my last comment and it has been flagged

Hi everyone! I have been hearing talk of college confidential and finally decided to seek it out myself. I guess I’m the first “out” 2019 recipient thus far! I attribute it to the fact that I am on the west coast and that my JKC advisor is also my boss and friend. I think she received the email around 1 pm on Friday, so it’s likely there are many emails sitting in inboxes over the weekend
I look forward to seeing more announcements over the next week!
Hi everyone, this is my first post here because I want to say thank you for all of you for sharing your stories and the valuable information. I am a 2019 scholar I got a message from my advisor around 5pm on Friday. It s been a very stressful period I wish you all the best
@sarra19 well, Sarra enjoy these prestigious moments while you can, very happy for you. When was your interview? I had mine toward the end of March, I am not sure if it means anything. I am sure you know how we feel not knowing what’s going on yet.
My interview was on March 12th. I feel you guys, I almost got depressed specially after they anounced all the PTK scholarships and I attended the Catalyst in Orlando.
@sarra19 thanks for answering that question. Me too, I have attended the Catalyst. Well, I know my supervisor really well, and she won’t be able to hold it without telling, if I don’t hear from her tomorrow then I am out.???
