@nekozuki I too found an obvious typo after submitting too and forgot to mention my plan for grad school.
Thanks everyone for the kind words! We shall see! I can’t wait to see how many of us on thread actually get it!

if anyone says they heard back on april fool’s day, they’re cruel individuals.
LOL @optimisticky
In a somewhat related note, is anybody going to the Phi Theta Kappa International Convention on April 16th? I would love to meet up with any of you amazing individuals, regardless of if you got Jack Kent Cooke or not
I am! I’ll be traveling with my campus chapter and will be attending all dates (:
@adorse26 Yes, I’ve gathered that from the most recent comments. That is not what I asked.
@liveinthelbcm, I want to go, but it’s too far away. At this point if it isn’t in Maryland or the surrounding area I am not going. Everywhere is too far when you don’t have any money to go anywhere. @cmbradley2015 I figured the best way to state that none of the transfers at least on hear has heard anything is because the changed the notification date. Also for the other scholarship for high school students who are going into college, they applied a while before us so that’s why they already have information back.
@nekozuki and @futurenurse2018, I don’t think they care about a few typos as long as you didn’t do it like ten times or more. @nekozuki, I wouldn’t think your not dreaming big. I think the dream of being a nurse is a big deal. I know a lot of people who couldn’t deal with being a nurse. I am one of them!
if you won the fellowship, what schools are ya’all transferring to?
Elmhurst College, a small private liberal arts school with a well known reputable nursing program. I am planning to go there either way. Tuition is $40,000 a year
Either Metropolitan State University of Denver, University of Vermont, Syracuse University, or NYU
University of MN College of Science & Engineering - Electrical Engineering
I am thinking of John Hopkins university. It is interesting, I thought I was the only one with typos.
@spud199 No way! I’m headed to the University of Minnesota as well. But the College of Liberal Arts.
I just remembered, one thing my JKC rep told me is that if says “300 character limit”, fill in 300 characters, or 299 characters. She said one of the biggest mistakes a lot of applicants make is not having enough to say, and that the application looks much stronger when the reviewer can see you were careful to use all the space that you possibly could. She also said it was extremely important to detail absolutely everything. For example, if you volunteered at a soup kitchen, detail every single thing you did there and what your role was. They give you one line to describe the position, but you can actually put as much info as you want in there.
Hey, everyone I don’t think there is a delay because of more applications. I talked to Todd from the foundation and he said there was only 2066 completed applications when they expected 3500 applications. I think the delay was only because of the extra two weeks they gave everyone to fill out the application.
That’s what I was thinking
I was thinking they will have less completed applications because the time for the application was bad, there was alot of exams and semester work, so people were busy between their academic work and the application, so I am not surprise. I think they just want to finish with the high schools college scholarship applicants before they start ours.
Good luck to you all
@sosm1301 Nice! Maybe I’ll see you around (:
That is what I thought too. But the delay is probably what changed the announcement. Some of your stories sound amazing. I mean I feel like I have done a lot and have overcome a lot of obstacles but I don’t know if it is good enough to win. I’m a PTK member, Psi Beta member, Sigma Kappa Delta member and president, a All Texas Academic Team member. I work two jobs, take 22 credit hours, and have a 3.8 GPA. I had been through so much when I was younger and into high school. My parents got divorced when I was 7. I had to raise my younger brothers and sister while my parents were doing drugs. Two of my brothers have Autism. In high school my mom became abusive and I had to move out when I was 18 across the state. Also in high school I got really sick. I went to school less times then I stayed home and taught myself everything and still made honor roll. I then moved across the country last year to help my dad with my brothers when their mom abandoned them. I’ve worked my butt off to get here and I pay for my school. I really hope I get it so I don’t have to worry about paying for school. I just don’t think I explained everything well enough (not the best writer and I didn’t ave anyone look over my essays). I’m nervous.
@USCGirl17 Awesome! I am so excited!
@adorse26 If my school didn’t subsidize a majority of the cost I wouldn’t go either haha. I think it is in Maryland a year or two from now.
It is somewhat surprising to me that only 2,066 people applied. You would think more would for such an amazing opportunity. :o
