Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Scholarship 2014-2015

@orehan‌ no it does not.

@cmbradley2015 we’re only being judged on the criteria we agreed to take credit for. i’m convinced people with real cares and insights don’t track their social progress so diligently, so as to exploit their smallest moral deeds for the greatest personal advantage.

i mean that the real scholars here are building communities, not resumes. and while we have to puff up our applications a little with relevant volunteer experience, our greatest actions probably won’t translate into volunteer experience we can exploit.

i used to visit this old woman who wore a head wrap and was terrified of the fish tank in her bedroom. Her daughter would visit and take the sheet off the fish tank, and I’d come by and put it back. We would eat chocolate ice cream and she would sing hymns. What am I supposed to do with that? Break it down to x-hours of service? That seems tacky. I can only ever hope that somehow my sincerity bubbles up in my writing on applications and that my resume doesn’t get used as their personal toilet paper…

@nekozuki That is right, you don’t know the struggles others have been through…unless they choose to make it known, which unlike a lot of people here, I have not. Not on here anyway. I would also be careful about assuming the reasons for why people donate their time and effort. Perhaps the way I said it implied that I would have done more charity work in order to win this scholarship, but I have been involved in community service long before I returned to school. Again, unlike many here, I

have chosen not to discuss it. I don’t see any reason to. That being said, I would much rather have been more involved in other things the past couple of years, but the way my counselor made it out to be was that schools that I wanted to get into would really be looking at not just my grades, but also the types and number of courses I was taking and so I’ve been taking such a heavy course load the last couple of years that there just hasn’t been much time to do other things. Also, if you haven’t lived alone then you just wouldn’t yet know how much time it eats up when you have to handle absolutely everything that comes with life - fixing things around the house when they break, going grocery shopping, car maintenance, laundry, paying the bills, cooking every meal, cleaning, etc. etc. If you live on your own you know what I’m talking about, and if not, you will gain so much respect for your parents or whoever you lived with before that took care of those things because they really do eat up a tremendous amount of precious time. Does that mean I’m saying people who still live at home have it all together? No, it just means exactly what I said it means; that living alone really takes up a lot of valuable time.

hmmm this forum is reach with diverse people

So what is the latest development, are we expecting results mid April or ending

@Georgemk, I was told yesterday Mid-April. Apparently, they just responded to my original email that I sent a few weeks ago.

Are there any other scholarships that anyone is waiting on? I’m waiting to hear about the Hites, which is a PTK scholarship and then the Terry Transfer Scholarship which is for certain Universities in Texas.

two things.

1: this butterscotch/chocolate chip brownie i’m eating right now is surprisingly unpleasing

2: i’m not waiting on any other scholarships. it routinely occurs to me that i know very little about the college system. truthfully, had i not received an e-mail about this scholarship, i may never have known (a mixed blessing).

Aww man that’s no good. I would have hoped butterscotch and chocolate chip would have been yummy. I am obsessed with scholarships. I sat down one night and completed 7 one time. I have joined multiple pages that find scholarships for you like niche.com, ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■, chegg.com, etc. Still waiting to win something though. Are you in PTK @optimisticky ?

Another week with no news, hopefully next week something good should come

Thanks@ Adorse26, I am now in similar situation like you, I just got admission into North Carolina University -Chapel Hill, and they want me to accept my admission and pay some deposit. I cannot afford to attend this school without any scholarship, I was hoping we will get JKFC results before I will have to make this decision, but now I am not sure when exactly we get the results and I don’t know what to do.

@ElizabethB82 I applied for two scholarships through PTK, one scholarship through another organization, and two full scholarships at local schools (not schools I really want to go to. They were back-up schools). I haven’t heard anything from any scholarships that I have applied for because a few haven’t started letting applicants know yet and won’t until June and July. I applied for the Hites scholarship too. They don’t let applicants know until July. I found this out on the PTK website by an accidental click. @Georgemk, I just want to know already. I picked out my housing today which has a few more opening so I have to apply soon to get a spot, but I don’t want to apply until I know something. And the deposit deadline being a little less than a three weeks away is freaking me out.

What I absolutely need to be occupying my brain with:

  • organic chemistry
  • biology
  • physics
  • differential equations
  • computer programming

What I am actually occupying my brain with:

  • " When the hell is the JKCF finally going to send my rejection letter???"
  • " When the hell are the universities going to finally release admittance decisions?"

Priorities…

I plan on transferring to Texas State and they just released my Financial Aid package yesterday. Not as much as I was hoping for but maybe when I go for my advising appointment on the 24th they will be able to offer me more. I am currently looking for an apartment, probably going to have to find roommates. Luckily my cousin’s daughter is there right now and she is helping me on where to find housing off campus and such. All these scholarships giving out late notices for winners is very pressing time wise. I believe I will be able to pay for school but I’m still a bit worried. I’ve already packed pretty much all my apartment. lol

@ElizabethB82 I was afraid of the woman in the Student Leadership Office, so I pretended to have walked into her room by accident and never became a PTK member. She was scary.

Also @cmbradley2015… what is that even.

I am afraid of your course load.

@ElizabethB82 You need to get on over here to my house…we are starving. Oh, and we want to see you ;

Well, let’s see what this week holds for us shall we?

I can’t believe we still haven’t heard anything.

@kpcosmic, Maybe they will start notifying people now that the young scholars scholarship is closing tomorrow.
