Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Scholarship 2014-2015

@jrf410 thanks for sharing, this means that atleast this week they will release stuff, because if the call was on the 10th of April, and they said in the next week or two, this will be the second week so hopefully they will come out with something

@jrf410 - Do you mind telling us about yourself? Like major, intended university, clubs/organizations, gpa, hardships and the like?

@cmbradley2015 Sure. I’m a dual major, philosophy and classics. My two top choices are Rutgers University or Columbia University. I have a 3.9 GPA. I have received several awards from my county college, such as the “All College” award and an “Outstanding Excellence” award. I’m the managing editor for our college paper and have been involved for four semesters with over 35 published articles. We just received second place in the state for general excellence. I’m a member of the French club and an officer in another political club. I have organized and participated in several debates, as well as functioned as a moderator in student government events. I was featured in the 50 years of MCC book as the “Renaissance Man” and was also presented in the yearly “Student Success Profile.” I’m a member of the College Assembly. I have been a volunteer firefighter since the age of 18. On top of all this I work a fulltime job at night and a part time job on the weekends. In 2007 I left MCC abruptly due to family issues and a general lack of direction and guidance. I returned in 2012 after working several years and here I am.

@jrf410 - That is excellent! It will be no surprise if you win.

@cmbradley2015 I do appreciate your enthusiasm and well wishing, but I refuse to county any money until it is in my hand! I say best of luck to all of us, we all have our own stories.

@jrf410 that is amazing, I will be shock if you don’t win this scholarship, but you are right, until you hear from the foundation nothing is sure.

@jr410 that is very impressive but i have to open my car door with a monkey wrench and served a brief stint on the fellowship of the ring but couldn’t keep the beard up, on account of my girlfriend who said it itched. also i am good at removing ants from kitchen walls.

i’m a triple major and every elite college in the land wants me and my resume is 19 pages long and i have literally never had a free hour in my life. always volunteering. i speak 14 languages fluently. the pope thanked me once. i know kanye.

@optimisticky hahaha you took the words right out of my mouth. I’ve been wanting to say something like this, but thought I’d get crucified. Nice to see we have someone in the chat with some backbone and a good sense of humor

I will be surprised if you don’t receive this scholarship @optimisticky even though I don’t know the story of thousands of other applicants

I had messaged the foundation through a Facebook message on March 30th and they responded to me with the message below a couple minutes ago!

“Those notifications will go out this month/early May.”

Early May haha… at this point we’ll all probably be transferred already before we hear anything :-@

Is just interesting how the date keep changing and they will not even post anything on their page for all applicants to know what is happening.

@optimisticky Did I offend you in some way? I was asked about my background and responded with my answer. @Spud199 if you find his response to be the only thing with a backbone and also the only thing humorous, may I suggest that you yourself get a backbone and leave this chat. Hopefully being an internet troll won’t be frowned upon in the selection process. Best of luck!

@jrf410 I don’t think @optimisticky 's intention was to insult you. In fact, it was more a compliment of your stellar achievements. I think he meant it more as commentary on how anyone who has a real shot at winning this scholarship has achieved what seems like the impossible. Which you have. Really, the minimum requirements for this scholarship are misleading. I don’t think we will be seeing many winners who simply have a 4.0 a few extracurriculars.

@jck2475 I hope you’re correct in that assertion. And if what you say is true and my reaction was unwarranted, I apologize to all parties involved. I do not intend any quarrel on this chat and am seeking answers like everyone else. And based on other’s credentials posted earlier in this forum, I doubt I have a chance as well. Anyway, thank you for this alternate view of events.

I just called the foundation and they told me that the answers will come out in mid May

I just got an email saying “mid-may” as well.

When does everyone’s semester end? My last day on campus is May 12th!

@FutureNurse2018, same for me. I still have to go back to college after that because I am graduating with my associate’s degree so I go back a week later for the practice ceremony and the ceremony. I am also taking summer classes. I just got an email about mid-may too.

My semester ends on May 12 as well
