Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Scholarship 2014-2015

I received the email saying that I didn’t get it, so Congratulations to everyone who did! and for the others who didn’t I feel you guys! but we should keep going!

I also received an email today saying that I was in semi-finalists but did not win. I don’t know what’s worse to hear :frowning: t if you don’t receive any email today, you’ll have a chance of winning, so good luck everyone

Hey @vincefan did you mean that you received the rejection letter from Jack Kent Cooke?

When did you guys receive the letter? Is it the same time?

@angelbt : yes, it’s the rejection letter. I received it today around 1:30pm.

But I thought this year was one stage, not two

I just got my rejection letter.

Thank you very much for applying to the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. The selection process has been completed and the competition for the scholarships was intense. I regret to inform you that you are not selected to receive an award.

The Cooke Foundation received over 2,000 applications and chose only 90 recipients. Selection of Scholars is not easy when the pool consists of some of the finest students our nation’s two-year institutions have to offer.

I hope you will continue to challenge yourself in all aspects of your life as you transfer to a four-year college. That you did not receive this scholarship should not deter you from applying for others. For your convenience, we have compiled on our website a list of resources that you might find useful as you seek additional scholarship opportunities.

I wish you much success in college and your career.

Good luck everyone!! Congrats to those who got it

@liveinthelbc yes, it’s one stage for the applicants, but I think there are several stages in the selection process.

I just got the rejection email as well :frowning:

I just got a rejection email as well, congrats to all winners

I won! I got surprised by the president of my college, my entire honors program, the deans, and photographers/cameramen. And of course, cried awkwardly. Grats to my fellow JKCF scholars, and I’m so sorry to those who didn’t make it. This was a grueling process.

nooo! not @FutureNurse2018, @Georgemk, and @liveinthelbc!

you three especially made this waiting period bearable. this bums me out. what do you all plan to do now? where are you going? the committee walked right over a goldmine.

I haven’t seen my rejection email nor any calls. Is that good or bad??? Do they send the emails all at once or sending out in states? I’m from Texas
Congrats to the winners!!!

Optimisticky you are too kind! Congrats to you! My plan never changed! I will will be transferring to Elmhurst College! Only difference is I will just be graduating with a boatload of debt!

hey, i might be attending classes in chicago (uchicago laughed at me but loyola and that other one… depaul? is still in the running). who knows. elmhurst looks like a great school. don’t think about the debt.

umichigan recently told me they would greedily take my scholarship and still bleed me for like, 20k. insane right?

good luck at elmhurst. if i end up in chicago, maybe we can get coffee or something and laugh about the absurdity of this whole experience.

also @nekozuki i skimmed right over your freakin’ awesome announcement! way to go! tell us what happened. i mean what did you do? did you cry face? you cry faced, didn’t you. that’s what made it awkward.

@optimisticky I’m really excited to meet you! I’m an awkward writer/poet too, so I feel like we’d get along awesomely. They invited me to give a speech for the honors program. Had photographers, cameramen, faculty, etc. Asked me questions and made it seem like it was just for a news story (we normally do guest speakers), but then surprised me at the end while a bunch of cameras were trained on my face. I started bawling and it they just laughed hysterically and snapped pics. Then they interviewed me on camera while I was all red-eyed and looking BUSTED.

I considered U of M too, but for out of state tuition, the price is too insane.

I got the e-mail… my heart dropped to my feet… :frowning:

@nekozuki i can out-awkward anybody, neko. i have dandruff and a squeezed lemon smile. what did you say at your speech?

i expect you will stroll into virginia still looking busted. some looks you don’t recover from. where are you going again?

@ElizabethB82 i’m real sorry about the news. you okay?

Unfortunately, I also got an email today saying I didn’t win. But I’m actually glad that they gave us the results a little later because my excitement kind of died down. It prepared me to accept whatever’s gonna happen and have the ability to be happy for others. Congratulations to everyone who won! There is no one who can be more proud but the applicants of this scholarship because we know how hard it is to achieve this very prestigious award! Good luck to everyone transferring over the Fall!
