Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Scholarship 2014-2015

@optimisticky Personal challenges/obstacles and how I got to the point in life I am now. A lot of crass, off-color jokes because I swear like a sailor, and I can’t pretend for a second to be some clean-cut cookie-cutter honors student.

I didn’t get it either, but not stressing as much because the financial aid office at the school I applied to is looking at my appeal and I should know by Friday if I am getting more financial aid. Either way I probably will attend school out of state in the fall. Congrats to everyone who got it. Everyone who didn’t get accepted should contact their financial aid office at the school they want to attend maybe they can help you.

@optimisticky I’ll be ok. Was a hard blow. I’ll just have to continue working two jobs. I only have enough financial aid to pay for the first semester. We’ll see how it goes. I’ve probably applied to nearly 30 scholarships this semester and last and have won nothing.

I won! I don’t even know what to say! Congrats to my fellow winners!

Congratulations @nekozuki and @jck2475!! For all of you amazing people who didn’t get it, I am sorry to hear that. That being said, you all have done amazing things thus far in your college careers and in life; I have no doubts that not only are you all capable of going on to achieve great success, but that you will seize it because that’s the type of people you are. Never give up, and never settle. You all deserve the best.

@nekozuki not that there is anything wrong with clean cut cookie cutter honors students. being a scholar means getting hair cuts and good hygeine. big life changes.

did your college people tell you the foundation would contact you on the 1st?

sorry @adorse26 and hang in there @ElizabethB82.

@jck2475 maybe neko, you, and i will meet in virginia and we can stare at our feet and fail at small talk.

finally i know we’re all waiting on @cmbradley2015. come on. did you win or what? i’m dying to know.

@optimisticky - I have a highly suspicious, meeting tomorrow that is “confidential” in nature. I have not received a rejection letter yet, so I am sure I will know by tomorrow around 1:00pm (PST).

Welcome new Cookie Cousins! I’m so excited for you, and for all you will experience over the next year! If you are a facebook person, add me: Lori Patrice King-Nelson. I can help you with any questions you have.

@greekgirl2005 Thanks for extending the invitation! I sent you a friends request, but FB says it went into your “other” folder.

@cmbradley2015 I was informed today. The school and my parents surprised me today. I am hoping to hear from the soon.

@nekozuki evidently scholars have a sophisticated mail filtration system that screens and wades through the thousands of requests they receive a day. scholars are facebook VIPs.

also congratulations @crepayne

i’ll see you… crepayne in the shadows of virginia… do you get it? my senses are gone. so many applications. so many.

I just got suprised at my honors banquet with the award!! Congratulations to everyone!

Woooh! Wednesdays are long days for me. So I was surprised today at that meeting by a number of professors, counselors and other staff who know me. I am a confirmed JKC transfer scholarship recipient! I honestly feel humbled to be amongst you other winners. I look forward to meeting you all soon!!

huh. you’d written a few pages back “i am aware that my chances of winning the transfer scholarship are almost nonexistent.” i picture you speaking in long animated sentences and taking compulsory big gulps of breath every ten seconds. i’m hoping that my ability to determine the peculiar ‘styles’ of socialization of forum posters turns out accurate.

did your girlfriend win?

@optimisticky - Lol! Actually I am pretty quiet and shy according to most people. It will be interesting indeed to meet the people behind the posts that have literally kept me sane for the past month.

We actually broke up a few weeks ago after two years, but we are still really close and talk every day. Unfortunately she didn’t win. We knew yesterday when she got the email and I was far more depressed about it than she was. She’s taking it so well and I am just amazed by the way she handles things.

@optimisticky, thanks for your kindness, infact my plans are actually better than before, I just got admitted at North Carolina University and they are offering me 32000, in addition to that I have an additional 15000 scholarship from mdoyle, and epscoe, so I am happy for not winning JKCF because that probably created room for some one who needed it most. I am also waiting for the financial package from John Hopkins University and Brown University, to see, if I get a better package from then I will have to chose between the three schools. The dreams are still alive and we are still on the way to changing the world. I hope to meet some of you one day. I am going into public health epidemiology, hoping to work for world health organization or the center for disease control in a developing country.

I’ve neither gotten a rejection email nor been notified that I’ve received the scholarship? I’m wondering what that could mean at this point.

@cantjixtis there is a good and a bad element. the good is, it looks promising that you haven’t received a rejection letter. the bad is, somebody at your school needs to make contact with you very soon. i was told the foundation has a firm timeline. april 30. i can’t vouch for how accurate that is. but my college staff made it seem vitally important they notify the foundation that i’d been contacted shortly after they received the news.

@optimisticky - It seems like you’re the only one who has been contacted by the foundation so far. Do we need to speak with them before a certain date to secure it? I am just wondering if me or someone from my school needs to contact them or if I should be getting a call from them soon.

@cmbradley2015 I was told that the foundation would be making calls today.
