I would say rubi has a good chance at being selected. However, I talked to the recipient from my school the previous year, and she never received the email. I had already been accepted into one of my top three schools at time of application, so maybe they only send it out to tentative winners who had not applied in before submitting the application to verify if they have applied or been accepted. There are a lot of amazing applications in the forum, and I would be surprised if no one got it besides rubi.

I highly doubt if they send that e-mail to each individual without any special consideration. Remember that there are a lot of applications this year and the e-mail is directly sent from JKCF officer, not customer service representative. And it is unlikely that they know if an applicant gets accepted to the 4-year college or not.

I agree that whoever received that email probably has a good shot. I’m a little surprised that there aren’t atleast a couple other people on here who received it.

Hello all. I was hoping I would find others who were Phase II also.

@greekgirl2005

There are a bunch of Phase II folk here and everyone is biting their nails.

Has anyone tried calling or emailing about the significance of the 4 year email or when applicants will be notified?

Go for it. At this point we just need to hurry up and wait.

It might be another week or two, I’ve noticed they call your school so you can be surprised in class or something. That would be fun…we should all start carrying party poppers and cake so there can be a big celebration :-)

Do you guys think they will still have the schools notify the recipients even though this year’s app didn’t require a nomination?

Personally, I know that the college presidents enjoy making a big deal out of this- and it really is a big deal- it looks good on them and on the college. Very few scholarships out there offer this much money…

;-)

:-)

Sorry folks, it keeps trying to repost my last post…

Tomorrow will probably be the big day. Prepare yourself for the best or worst day of your lives.

Will it be out tomorrow? Did you call them? I don’t think it will be the worst day of my life even if I don’t get it. I recycle a bunch of the essays I wrote for this scholarship for other scholarships and internships, and I get to put on my resume that I was in semifinal for Jack Kent Cooke scholarship. :x

Exactly! Even if I’m not selected, I have secured funds for my undergrad degree, so I’m not going to be devastated.

Hello all! I am a current Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholar (I am a 2013 recipient). I would like to congratulate you all on making it this far! I know this is a stressful time as you wait to hear back… If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask. :)

Also, after reading through some of the comments, I did receive the same email inquiring about my four-year school and asking for my fall 2012 transcript. However, I am not sure if everyone who received the scholarship did. I received this email on March 19th and was notified by my college on April 12th.

We had to upload our complete transcript (including Fall) in January as a part of Phase II, so I’m not sure that would be a point to worry about. Congrats on winning- which school did you choose?

Thanks! I know the process has changed a bit since last year. I am at Columbia University. I had to defer a semester in order to prepare for the move to New York, so I am just now in my first semester. I must say, receiving this scholarship has been even more life-changing than I expected. As difficult as the process is (all of the essays, paperwork, waiting, etc), it is so worth it! I wish you all good luck. I am sure you will hear back very soon. One point I will make is do not get discouraged if you see others on here posting about winning…don’t think that you have not been selected if you haven’t been notified yet. I was watching this board last year and was certain I had not been selected because others had been posting for more than a week. However, my college administration had known and was waiting to inform me because they wanted to do something special. So, keep the faith as long as possible!
