I also got the email today. I agree w/nateriver though, at least we know! Now i can get back to studying and stop wondering if there is a huge surprise headed my way.

Congrats again to those who were selected and, best wishes to everyone!!

Even though I was not selected it was so worth applying for this scholarship! The nomination itself is a great honor. Good luck to those who are still waiting! The winners: Congratulations and make the best out of your lives!

Cheers!

I got the same email this morning :/

With the foresight and diligence that this thread will be looked upon for years to come I want to give my final piece of advice.

Future applicants should start this thread during the application process if you find this in time. This will help in many ways. A thread will serve a higher purpose pre nomination than it will post nomination. Do not be afraid to ask questions here as I am sure some of us will still be around to help answer your questions.

Furthermore read through this thread thoroughly. Myself, Scribe, Mr. Norrell (Nice Name=) ) and others have given very valuable advice. There are several indicators as to what to look for and even more examples of what not to do, especially in the area of what you allow yourself to manifest during this most anxious occasion. The entire process changes a little from year to year so save yourself from google and the likes, it will only serve to make this time go by slower. Never be afraid to ask the JKCF any questions you have

scholarships@jkcf.org

Once you have been nominated, it is in God’s hands. Google, nor this thread can or will change the outcome. Scribe (senior scholar recipient) gives the best advice, just don’t sweat it. This scholarship should not be a make or brake for anyone and if you are qualified to a be a JKCF scholar, you are certainly qualified to overcome any future challenges or obstacles in academia–even if you can’t see it.

There are a few students here who were very prepared and have other scholarship opportunities lined up. This is a good idea! It is also a good idea to search your community area colleges for district transfer scholarships which sometimes partner with area community colleges. Also be selective, many of you are listing Harvard as your first choice school and to be honest, it only shows how little you are prepared. Not a good indication you are prepared. Find schools that have need based grants and research the percentage of those awards–it’s practically the same thing as this scholarship.

There are no losers in this. We are lucky that the world has 73 more JKCF scholars than it did last year.

In the end, remember, only about 7%-10% of nominees are going to be selected. You are 9 times more likely to not get this, than you are to get it. Don’t forget this. This is why you shouldn’t sweat it. I don’t sweat it when I lose a scratch off and the scratch off cost more than this did. This as you can see by the thread can be a very emotionally taxing occasion. As Scribe was eluding too, no sense in taxing yourself… it won’t serve any purpose.

If you are an applicant and you do not have a proactive rep, these forums can help you out a great deal. Bad reps are a common story so don’t depend on anyone to hold your hand and get prepared on all your scholarship apps asap. Maybe even try a few smaller ones to get used to the process. It helps I promise! Many of us here will go on to win other scholarships just from what we learned with this experience, myself included.

The day the recipients were released to the schools, I opened the news and a story really got to me. 73 people died in a small slow speed bus crash that caused an explosion. 2 small kids who were in their house sleeping, were burnt beyond recognition form flying debris.
Small random bus crash… Then I heard there were 73 recipients for the scholarship and I gave great pause… If you are reading this, you are blessed… perspective is everything in life…

The greatest opportunity in life is a chance at being the change… go out and be the change, even if JKCF is the not path available… there are many roads that lead to where you are going. Get the map out, and figure out another route… if that one closes… repeat.

God Speed you all and I hope that in 2 years some of you will revisit this thread and give updates–recipients and non recipients.

You can do it! Dream on! … Identity is the never ending pursuit of one’s self- BlueJacket 99’

I received the same e-mail. My dear friend did not, so I hope he will get the award next week. It’s definitely hard. Joining this JKC family would have been amazing. Still, we can always apply for graduate school! :)

Like all of you, I plugged in countless hours doing research for the entire application. Still, this personally inspires me to continue to go out into my communities and help disenfranchised students find out about this scholarship.

Yes, we did not get this scholarship. But, we are darn lucky to be part of a generation that has so many opportunities that past generations sacrificed to create.

We might never meet each other, but I hope you keep making this world a better place to live in. Many blessings to the rest of you!

i got the email as well. i think we should all be proud to have been nominated by our respective school though. and congratulations to the winners, they are well deserving.

@yeaim here here! & @all the winners. Congrats, I am honored to be nominated among your ranks.Keep up the amazing, live-changing work

Have any more rejections been received since the 12th? I’m still waiting to hear back! My application is still listed as being “Under Committee Review”

Hey all! It never occurred to me that this thread was here until just now. I was awarded a JKCF Transfer Scholarship about 3 weeks ago. Hopefully I will see some of you in Virginia at the Scholar’s Weekend!

Congrats Joey!

Does anyone know anything about the JKCF Young Scholars program? D2 is a candidate and just came through the interview round. Definitely on pins and needles, waiting to hear. The odds are pretty slim but it is exciting to be part of the process.
