Jackson Lab Program Question

Rejected! But already accepted a position at the NCI (National Cancer Institute) 2 weeks ago.

Could people please post whether they are in high school or college when they receive a decision? It would be much appreciated, especially for those still waiting! ^^; Thanks in advance!

also what region of the country - i’m in the south and i’m starting to think most accepted applicants are west coast or north…

congratulations Sirenmotel! I’ll also be accepting the offer :)

(I’m a junior in HS from the New England area)

Hey Orbit196,

How do you know you were rejected? did you get a letter/email/phone call?

also those who got accepted how/who did you hear back from?

Via email

March 23, 2011

Dear XXXXX :

Unfortunately, you were not selected for this year’s Summer Student Program.

We receive so many more deserving applications each year than there are spaces in our Summer Student Program. Inevitably, most applicants will be disappointed. Those not chosen for participation in any given year should understand that the decision does not necessarily constitute a judgment on the quality of the applicant or his/her credentials, but rather is simply the result of program size limitations.

Failure to be accepted into our program does not preclude future submission of an application in subsequent years of eligibility, and we encourage this. Keep up the great work! We hope to hear from you again in the future.

In the meantime, we hope that you find projects for this summer that are challenging and rewarding.

Best regards,
Randy Smith, Ph.D.

Director, Educational Programs and Affiliated Scientist

i think in previous years people have received rejection letters about 2-3 weeks later

I never got a rejection email…

Oh I was waitlisted and just got the email today…IF ANY OF Y’ALL HAVE OTHER PLANS, PLEASE REJECT YOUR OFFER OF ADMISSION  jk congrats to those who got in!

I didn’t apply, but I have lots of connections to the Jackson Lab. Just so you guys know, the place where you stay, High Seas, is probably the most beautiful property on the island. This is on an island where the Vanderbilts, the Mellons, the Rockefellers, the Fords, and Martha Stewart all own houses. Seriously, you guys are so lucky to be attending. Good luck! Bar Harbor is a great town!

dp2012: I was accepted as well under Dr. Blake. I’m a 3rd year bioinformatics undergrad, and I’m super excited for the program! I’ve been to the facility before and it’s in an amazing spot, and the work they do is awesome.

do people actually get off the waitlist?

I just got in off the waitlist!!!

Congratz!!

To those who were waitlisted and haven’t been accepted off the waitlist (yet?), did you all receive the email from them today?

I received the email too! I wonder if they sent it to all 175ish people on the waitlist or just the people they are reconsidering from the waitlist? because they personalized the email and wasn’t just a ‘Dear Student’ mass email :/

My d received the email too but I remember that the initial waitlist email was also personalized so I think everyone received it.

Yeah, I got a seemingly “personalized” waitlist email too.
They probably BCCed all of us =(
4/175…

Ah wait, I didn’t notice the “Dear name” on it.
They might’ve had some email program to input names or something, idk.

Unless us 3 and someone else are the only ones that got the email ? =D

I’m going to be working w/ Dr. Frankel this summer.

Who else is doing the early start on May 29 ?

Can’t wait to meet you all !
