Jackson Laboratory SSP (2015)

@Zehra313‌ I’d be careful contacting Jax too often, you don’t want to annoy them before any final decisions.

Whatever is going to happen, will happen. You will either get an internship, or not. I don’t think there is anything we can do now. We’ll get word by the 31st (maybe on the 31st). I know it is hard to wait, we are all feeling the same anxiety.

(but thank you for the update)

P.S. My son, Austin’s 3 choices were computational biology, bioinformatics, genomics. He is a high stat kid, but only has AP Chem, AP CompSci, and AP physics under his sciences, he hadn’t taken AP bio yet (he’ll get to that senior year). I don’t know how much his lack of AP bio would hurt him. He wrote his essay on de-extinction, and how he wants to learn more about computational biology / gene sequencing to help in the efforts to bring back animals that humanity has wiped out.

@psywar‌ – You’re probably right. It’s almost like an awful itch nonetheless.
I’d say my sciences were about the same as your son’s. Except, replace AP Physics with AP Biology. I also have AP Psychology and Environmental under my belt.

That being said – my essay was more focused on societal change and possible medicinal solutions based on the difficulties I underwent (I am a 3rd world country child). I think I spoke too little about the actual solutions and more on the difficulties I underwent. Honestly, I’m quite afraid this places my essay at a lower rank.

I wish your son the best and I hope he makes it in! Please continue updating us as well.

lmao I don’t remember my lab choices or essay…
Did anyone hear anything yet?

Nope… still waiting. Trying to keep up an optimistic mindset.

OMG

@dearestcurry‌ – Did you hear back!!! UPDATEEEE PLEASSE!!!

nah jk

@dearestcurry‌ How brutal. -_-

So nobody has heard ANYTHING yet?

I haven’t heard anything yet. They still have till Tuesday. And maybe they could push it into April…

Last year I received my rejection on 3/31. Others received it earlier. Let’s see what happens this year.

@NicolleD‌ By any chance, do you know of any students who were accepted the last days of March or during April?

This wait is keeping me highly unsettled. It seems to me highly unlikely that mentors are still “reviewing” applications this late.

As of tonight, if we hadn’t received any word, I told myself to assume it’s a no. I’m sure a mentor would have contacted us by now…

looks like ill have to find some unpaid research in the area

Well, let’s not jump the gun yet. A few years ago, a student was accepted on the 28th, and it was a Friday. It’s a weekend, and I doubt mentors email on weekends. Let’s wait a few days. Wishing all of you the best of luck. I’ll keep updating. But as @yesyesyesyes‌ stated, if it doesn’t work out, there’s always research in our local cities.

This is what I think. Mrs. Body would not email Zehra that applicants are still under review if that was not true. Furthermore, chances are at least someone who had acceptanced would personally state they were accepted on CC.

Does anyone want to share the areas of research they chose?
I chose these three:

  1. Cardiovascular
  2. Stem Cell
  3. Immunology

WHATS tracys email

Hi @dearestcurry‌ . Here is her email address: Traci.Boddy@jax.org

Best of luck!!! :))

Still waiting to hear as well. This is a very stressful process.
