I’m not sure if anyone else made a thread for this yet or not… Anyways, how much weight does this program put on prior experience?
I’m not quite sure…acceptance rates are about 4-5%, so I don’t know what they’re looking for. I’m also applying this year. I think it really depends on the mentor. If they prefer a student with prior lab experience, they’ll choose one that does.
For anyone applying, what are you putting as your three research interests?
Also can someone clarify if we need to send in any standardized testing scores? The application checklist never mentioned it but it seems this program is pretty competitive…Does that indicate essays are a main factor whether someone gets in?
@c0llegeb0und2468 I haven’t started my application yet, but cancer, neurobiology, and immunology are probably going to be my choices what about you?
Hey I’m also applying this year! On the application, are you guys also ranking your choice of mentors as well or just doing research areas?
Also, do you think things like S.T.E.M. club, science olympiad, and science national honor society can go under experiences?
@ambitiousgeek
I’m assuming we don’t submit SAT/ACT scores because there’s no space to put it. I’m also guessing that the essay has a huuuuge weight on the application.
Also, I’m thinking neurobiology, aging, and genomics. I’m certain to put neuro, but the other two may change between now and when I submit the app.
do you guys know if we need to try to email mentors ahead of time for this program? ex. other programs such as nih almost requires applicants to email PI’s
@cougar123 No, if you look on the “Apply” page of the website, you’ll see that the there are several stages of selection. The review committee is in charge of choosing the “top tier” of applicants, and then the mentors review them. NIH SIP is really tedious in that way.
Hey guys!
My top three are cancer, neurology, and cardiovascular
Just out of curiosity, what grade are you guys all in?
Mine are immunology/inflammation/hematology, genetics, and neurobiology! I’m giving my essays a final edit right now and it’s rough haha. Like how to voice reasons for why the program fits into goals/wanting to research in said areas without sounding overly generic.
My top three are immunology, research tools, and genomics.
ok thanks!! @happyalldatime
i forget, but i think i put something along the lines of cancer, development, and stem cell?
or maybe immunology
I’m a HS junior. what grade is everything else on this thread in?
I’m also a high school junior.
Also a high school junior!
Do any of you have previous lab experience?
