@RochesterREMS Sign into the JAX SSP application portal, and it’s on the status page.
@happyalldatime how do sign into the portal? Can u pls post the link? I scrolled down to the bottom of the admission page, but there’s just a green tab that says the application is closed.
@RochesterREMS Ah, sorry, they closed it. It was still open two days after the deadline.
Hello fellow JAX applicants! I am a HS junior applying for this summer. My top choice lab is working on a project that I have been very interested in for years, and it would be so incredible to work on it. Would it be appropriate to e-mail the PI and express my interest in her research? I know other programs like NIH encourage you to e-mail PIs, but I’m not sure about JAX.
@SciGirl001 I’ll quote my reply from a previous post: “No, if you look on the “Apply” page of the website, you’ll see that the there are several stages of selection. The review committee is in charge of choosing the “top tier” of applicants, and then the mentors review them. NIH SIP is really tedious in that way.”
I’ve applied to programs similar to JAX SSP, and when I emailed the PIs, they told me to go through the application process, so I’d advise against doing so.
@happyalldatime Ah, understood. Thanks for the reply!
Hey fam, got my acceptance due to special circumstances, but for those who end up joining SSP in Maine let me know! I’d like to get to know some of the participants beforehand.
@Snowballer16 Wow congratulations! Did you get an email from summer@jaxlab.com?
Um, no? It was from the program director and the email ends in .org.
@Snowballer16 Congrats! Are you a junior?
@Snowballer16 Congratulations!!! Just a quick question: do you attend school in Maine?
I’ve heard that a lot of the students who are accepted happen to go to school in Maine…so yes I’m wondering the same thing ^^^
Haha no, from Chicago and I’m a graduating HS senior. They have no regional preferences if that’s what you’re theorizing.
@Snowballer16 That makes me feel a little better about the selection process Which PI did you get?
@Snowballer16 - can you please let me know what you mean by special circumstances?
@Snowballer16 Yes I am also curious what you mean by /special circumstances/?
Guys, I got admitted early because I needed to know urgently or else I would have withdrawn my application. Please only message me if you got in. My piece of advice is that you don’t freak out about how decisions are made. I know as much as you do about the application process based off of the website. If you deserve this opportunity, then it will come to you.
^“if you deserve this opportunity, then it will come to you.”
I’d like to remind everyone (well directing this towards the above commenter who doesn’t want people to tag him if we haven’t gotten in yet) this program is highly selective and by no means will a rejection indicate that you did not deserve it. I’m sure by just applying, you’re most likely a very hard-working student looking to take advantage of opportunities around you to foster your knowledge; that alone still makes you commendable, not undeserving if you don’t get in.
Thank you @samsunguser.
What qualifies as “late March”?
