Sounds good. So I guess I will wait until early August to apply. My parents are having hard time supporting 3 kids in college now. Hopefully this will save them some money. I assume if I want to renew the next year, it will go back to the normal rate, right?

I’m not sure… my rate was lowered. If you sign early, they give you incentives such as lower rates. My roommate this year signed early and went from a 4 bedroom 2 bath w/ parking for 850, to a 4 bedroom 4 bath w/ parking for 750.

Don’t wait thaaaaat long though… August is kind a pushing it. I’ll keep you posted on their current deals though :)

@msolo45 Thank you very much. I am so excited about going to UT. The hard work really pays for everyone who has been working hard.

Oops! clicked it too fast w/o proof-reading. I meant the hard work pays off.

@msolo45, my friend and I signed a contract with J26 today. it’s $700 for 4 bedrooms/2 baths (D1) with parking and price guarantee. We got $25/mo consession since we did not use an apartment locator. We went to see the location of the unit. It’s on the first floor facing Rio Grande. We kind of regret choosing the specific unit because the nearest side entrance has a dumsper which is quite messy and smelly. The trash collection is also nearby. I will call the office to see if I can switch to another room. Do you suggest 2nd or 3rd floor? Which side is better? Overall, we do like J26.

pln is it $700 per person or divided by 4 people?

700 is per room for a 4-bedroom/2 bath unit (D1). This is after the $25 concession for not having an aparment locator.

did the website jefferson26sucks.ning.net paly a role in your decision? I did not like the jeff 26 because of what was said on the website.

Hi xtra, thanks for giviing the link. I have until 6pm today to cancel the contract. But my next question is where to find a good one. There are so many apartments and without much information its hard to know which is better. We drove to Austin Friday night. Spent few hours in the morning searching and ended up with J26. Any suggestion?

The link is actually jefferson26sucks.ning.com. From the reviews I’ve read on there, J26 must really suck. I probably wouldn’t want to live there after reading those review. :/

I am sorry pinlin2, it is .com instead of .net. So Jefferson 26 is not a good place to lease then? I was suspicious because the lady who works pushed us to sign the lease with her. I asked if we could have a copy of the lease and then fax the lease to her. She said no because their fax machine is broken. We went to see the apartment when they had a DJ over this weekend. The complex was quite loud. Furthermore, if you step into the elevators you can see that the top of the elevators is unfinished.

I went to Austin with a Realtor on Saturday. We took a look at some condominiums. Most of the private condos do not have leasing offices, so you have to go with a realtor.

I am looking for a good apartment for next year. Most of the condos I toured with my locator are old and they don’t have that many windows so they tend to be dark. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Have you tried The Block or the Quarters? I’ve been looking for some too. :/

My mom freaked out after reading the posts on jefferson26sucks.ning.com. The rent is a little over the budget for my friend (roommate) anyway. I cancelled J26 yesterday. Vintage west campus has only one unit (2 bedroom/2 baths) left. It’s 865/room plus elec and water. Texan west campus is all sold out. Vintage and Texan are managed by the same company that seems to be good. 21 Rio still has some rooms available. It’s quite expensive though. I probably will share a large room with my friend at 21 Rio.

Okay. yes campus acquisitions is quite good in management. lived at the castilian this semester. looking at some private condos right now.

Do you know any good private condos?

I’m looking for apartments right now – definitely not going to choose J26.

No, not within the price range that you specified that is not also dark or too old. (to plnlin2)
I have toured some condos but they are either too expensive or dark or old and crappy.

But some condos are centennial and dos rios
