JHU Pianos?

I applied ED to hopkins for science, but I think I’m really going to miss playing piano to de-stress. There’s nothing in my application about music, and I don’t plan on taking music @ hopkins. But assuming that there are pianos there somewhere for music kids, how hard is it to access them? Just to play music by myself for like half an hour lol.
This is a weird question but I’d appreciate someone from jhu to answer!
thanks

If you can’t find one at the school, there are a bazillion churches in the area and you could request permission to play at one.

Thanks!

(Current student)

It’s pretty easy to access a piano at Hopkins. At least three of the residence halls (AMR 1, McCoy, and Charles Commons) have pianos and there are music rooms with pianos in the Martin Center.

Thanks for info!

Hey, current grad student here who also frequently plays piano to destress. I usually go to the Mattin Center at least once a week to play, and their instruments are great. All Yamaha baby grands (maybe they’re full grands? I’m dumb and don’t know the difference) in private rooms with full length mirrors. I think there are seven or eight total, which may not sound like much, but I’ve only had to wait for a room once, and I only waited fifteen minutes. Generally, there are several empty rooms, but I’m also there on Tuesdays at noon, so the time of day could have something to do with it.

Also, there’s a Hilton across the street from campus that has a piano in their lobby, and I know from personal experience that they don’t care if you play it…

In short, JHU is a great place for pianists! Having access to high-quality instruments has motivated me to practice and improve this semester. Also, if you’re interested in hearing classical music live, the Peabody has free concerts just about every day and they’re all phenomenal. Have to vouch for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, too, which I saw last weekend. They played Rach 2! Easily one of the best concerts I’ve been to in my life.
