JMU Fall 2013 Transfer

Because, follow this link: <a href=“Financial Aid and Scholarships - JMU”>Financial Aid and Scholarships - JMU;

Look at the section by April 2013. Preliminary financial aid for prospective students. Key word is prospective, which means anyone can do it. Read the bold print: it can take up to 6 weeks to process the fafsa and notify you of awards. It’s simply for convenience of meeting deadlines if you are accepted. This is available to any applicant.

I just feel like that’s not an ndicator, considering I applied pretty early (before the deadline) and it still showed up.

I don’t think I had that link last time i checked, but I could see it going either way…

If you think about it they could just be putting it up on every ones or putting them up on the accepted so they don’t get swarmed with financial aid forums.

The deposit thing is that on jmu’s main website or application center? Also how did you find out your student number?

matt145 your student number is listed in MyMadison in the applicant center where it says your status it says application number and then student number

i googled the deposit and that’s where i found it, but i’m skeptical because i entered my number and got pretty far into the process (but i’m waiting for an official word to send a deposit) so i went back in and put a random number and went just as far…

NOTE: Preliminary Award Information is only available for admitted students. that’s what it says up top when you click on the link on my applicant.

Weird. I don’t get that when I view my app, but i get this when I view financial aid along with.

NOTE: Preliminary Award Information is only available for admitted students.
Below you may find your PRELIMINARY financial aid information.

Please read your award notice carefully.
This information is a preliminary estimate of what your aid will be and is provided for budgetary purposes.
It is important to communicate with your parents if they are to participate in your financial aid… there is more.

I think it just means that once you are admitted you can view the awards if you sent in for aid. I just got mine from other colleges i was admitted to. I assume this means nothing as they should accept or decline first and foremost then these awards should be visible.

I think were suppose to hear back within the next few weeks. I went back to the 2011 thread and most got letters the 8th through the 10th. We get ours online so we might expect them earlier. Anyone hear anything on when were suppose to hear back?

I am dying to know!! I sent in my application in mid february. I am applying as a transfer from CNU. I had a 3.0 gpa last semester (this is my freshman year) and a 3.8 gpa in high school. I was involved in varsity athletics and did lots of volunteering. I never applied to JMU out of high school but I really want to go now. Please post if/when you’ve been accepted and your stats!!

I also have the financial aid button in my applicant center

So does everyone here have the preliminary financial aid link on their myapplicant? And what does your financial aid letter say? For me it says that they haven’t received a fafsa so they couldn’t put a how much financial aid I’d be recieving

Same with me. It probably means that the school will do the aid once your accepted or display it once that time comes.

yeah i have the same as above too!

Hey everyone! I am a sophomore and applied for transfer to JMU as a freshman and the same Preliminary Financial Aid comes up no matter what. It does NOT mean you are accepted. I was waitlisted last year and the waitlist closed and I had that link before I ever received any decision. I strongly urge people not to put false hope into links they find. JMU is very strange with their transfer admissions process, so just wait for an answer! =)

Also, if anyone is curious, when I was waitlisted last year my first semester GPA at CNU was 3.82 and my highschool GPA was 3.9 with 1280/1820 SAT scores and I was captain of the varisty volleyball team. I took IB classes and earned a service award. I was waitlisted and unfortunately had to send them my second semester college grades which I got like a 3.2? (chemistry) and was never accepted. I applied again this year and I have beefed up my application with more extracurriculars and last semester my GPA was a 3.49. Wondering what will happen this year!

lboone, I think you have a much better chance this year. I talked to an admissions counselor when I visited JMU and she said freshmen applicants aren’t given much priority and it’s easier for sophomores/juniors/seniors to transfer. I think you’ll get accepted with a 3.49, they said a 3.0 is considered “competitive”.

I also agree with you, don’t trust links they aren’t an indicator. But I’m guessing decisions should be up like in the next week or two.

Ah, I really hope so! Thank you! I actually got the decision on April 11th last year, so the date for our decisions is coming up soon. Everyone cross their fingers =)

I’ve heard that same about freshman, but I did know a few that got in. When did you hear from jmu last year lboone? I’m just trying to get a time frame of when we should hear back. I just got accepted to tech, but I’m still stressing like crazy over jmu.

ooops disregard my question in the last post…

Actually I knew like three people who were freshman who got in last year, so I’m wondering what set them apart from me. My biggest problem is my math and science are weak. Granted, I got an A in my math but it was the most basic I could take. They really stress those courses, but I’m a philosophy major so what are they expecting haha.

Is Jmu everyone’s first choice of colleges if they transfer?

Its the only place I applied. My mindset is more like “I want to go to JMU”, not “I don’t want to be at my current school.” If I don’t get in there I figure no where else is worth the hassle of transferring credits, leaving Greek life, friends, housing situations, etc. Plus, if I get accepted it really does depend one how many credits transfer, because I really couldn’t afford to do college for another year/semester.
