I figured I would make this thread now since there’s basically a month until the exam. Who’s taking it and how are you prepping?
I was going to take the July ACT but I’m going to be very busy this summer so I might just take the September ACT, or both. I bought some prep books and I’m going to watch YouTube videos. I will also go over my weakest areas such as Math, going over algebra topics and stuff using the Khan Academy SAT math prep because the math topics are the same. I am also doing some online prep websites (free trials). If you have the money I would take an ACT class in the summer. I heard those help a lot. Although I’m doing self prep.
My kid is taking it and he hasn’t started prepping yet. Attempts at suggesting he start thinking about prepping get eye rolls and bouts of depression so I’m not sure how to cheerlead him in to wanting to prep for it. We have a bunch of books and he knows the video sites. Wondering if I should invest in a tutor or just let him coast and get what he gets.
I’ve been prepping for around 2 weeks now (a practice test every single day no joke) and my score already went up two points. Try to make him do at least 2 sections (or 1 to get him started) a day @ninakatarina
How do you find that many practice tests, @pl215382 ? Are you using unofficial ones? We have a book with 5, and they overlap the 5 that are posted online.
I have a book with 10 practice tests its called McGraw-Hill’s 10 ACT Practice Tests, Second Edition and im also just looking up “insert year act practice test” you can use the big red official act book princeton has a book with 3 tests and a math and science workout book @ninakatarina
We had the Barrons ACT book and found it riddled with mistakes, so I worry about practice test quality in other books. Let me know if you find any in McGraw-Hill.
Wish I could retake the ACT in July, but I’m unlucky enough to live in one of the 2 states in the nation that doesn’t offer the ACT in July. Lol it sucks.
@cram545 can you fly to another state to take it? Many are doing that
I wonder why it isn’t being offered in NY and CA.
Coming up soon! How are your studies? My kid needs a pep talk, anybody have hopes of highly improved math sections?
Are u guys ready for tmrw
So we’re back! Kiddo said that they called time on the math when he still had two questions he hadn’t looked at, so he made blind guesses. He enjoyed the reading, by his account it sounds like you had some fun passages.
What did you guys think - were there easier or harder parts to this one?
What did he think of the math section? @ninakatarina
Did anyone else find the math more difficult than usual? Thought it was a lot harder than the official practice math sections I have taken, but I also thought it was harder than other official math acts. Also that could just be me. However it semmed like the reading section was a lot easier. Good balance I guess.
That’s what I thought also… @IITRRUETEAKVI
He said that the math was harder than it had been on his practice tests but the last one was surprisingly easy so he is worried that he misread it.
So glad it’s over
Hey guys, I just did the July ACT. Was it unusual to get D and Js in a row on the English portion on the exam
They like to throw in long strings of the same choice sometimes to make you question yourself. My kid said he had many answers in a row that were the same in one section that he was confident in his answers, but he went back and spent a few minutes rechecking because he thought they wouldn’t make them similar like that.
But please don’t discuss answers on specific sections of the test like that, it’s against the terms of use.
