June 2009 SAT Math

zup:

the numbers were 6 inches and 24 ounces and then 9 inches with you finding the ounces. they said the square of the inches in length was proportional to the ounces.

so 6square = 36
36/24=1.5

now 9 inches:
9square = 81
81/x=1.5

x=54

Aw shoot. I had no idea.
I got lost with the squared of the length part for some odd reason.
I squared 6 got 36. Then just assumed you subtract 12 from the other. (I knew it was wrong but it was all I could guess.)
So I got 69 or something like that.

Thanks for the explanation!

The fish was definitely the easiest! I read it, and was like, ‘THIS IS CAKE.’ And then I was like, “… Wait.” And re-read it. And then said, “got you,” with a nice little B word after it.

The same as -1. :(

I literally worked for 10 minutes on that one fish problem…
I just blanked.

What was the fish problem about? I can’t seem to remember…

for the 1/4x + 4
its (1,3) because 3 < 1/4 + 4

also mary, at 2, the graph crossed -1
thats why its 2

One fish was 6 inches long and 24 ounces.
The other fish was 9 inches long. How much does it weigh if their squares are directly proportional.

I think that is what it was.

I kinda thought the fish one was ridiculously easy for a final problem

it said weight is directly proportional to the square of the length

all you gotta do is convert the words into an equation

W=kL²

Oooh yea I remember that problem. I had to think about it a bit, but figured it out in the end.

The one I still don’t get is the f(-3)=f(x) one. I don’t get why the answer is 2…

Funny how different some peoples minds are.
I think the wording just threw me off there for some reason and I just couldn’t get back into my “groove” since it was the last question.

Not sure. Now that I see it, I feel a little stupid, but hey, it happens.
What can you do?

what do you guys think the scale will be for like a high 600?

-5 or -6 bee123

also, to those who took the test in Jan., how did you guys think the january scale was for math? will it be similar to that?

Probably
45/54 = 650.
46=660
48=680.

Though, I really hope due to some magic that a 45/54 can be a 700.

i hate sat math with a passion

bee123, it wont be similar to january because it was a harder test

Yeah Zupchurch I totally know what you mean, its happened to me on the EASIEST problems and I just blank, but then after I did my practice test I would instantly figure it out

I’m at -3 .
(Did the gift card question really have $15 as an amount, is everyone sure about the f(x) question, and the fish question.
with 4 stupid skips.

So, I’ll prolly wind up with a 650. =[

which was harder, this or january?

yes gift card had 15$, and im sure about f(x) question because it clearly crossed -1 at 2 and im sure about fish question
:(

january was harder, repeated 3 times on this page glam
