June 2012 World History SAT II

Deadliest event = Stalin’s collectivization of agriculture, 5 million deaths in Ukraine alone.
Gandhi = homespun clothing.
Sepoy rebellion - not entirely sure, but India did become a possession of the British crown afterwards so I put British rule with no Indian say in government.

I agree that the practice test is not relevant practice just because history is so broad and it is unlikely the same concept will show up on the real test. That being said, MANY of the questions could be figured out through a very basic knowledge of history and repeating/common concepts and trends.

How about the question about Confucian view of women? I guessed because I wasn’t too sure. I think I put that women should be hardworking and raise good sons.

@LiamNeeson: Really? I would say the exact opposite haha, I feel like the test is so anal and fact-based it really isn’t good for measuring broader knowledge at all.

@Douglasgirl: That’s what I put. :)

yeah, i put same answer for confucian view.
Scandinavian question about not having last settlements. I put n.America

Hey guys! Does anyone know for sure the answer to the question about which religion was most widespread in 1300 CE? It was either Sunni Islam or Roman Catholicism, but I’m not sure which.

P.S. Did anyone else see that there was another thread on CC two years ago about these same questions? I found it by Googling the Napoleon quote… Is CB allowed to reuse tests like that?

Can someone consolidate and create a list of answers, please?

And for the question about Brazil, I selected Coffee as the answer. Anyone else with me?

What territories did Rome get w/ Punic wars? north africa and spain

@thelemonisinplay
I think it was Islam.
Catholicism was only in Europe, whereas Islam went from Southwest Asia to South Asia to Southeast Asia and to East Asia.

For the revolutions during the 20th century, it was Mexico and Cuba right?

I’m 100% sure the answer to Brazil was sugar. The Portuguese colonized and created these huge sugar mills called engenho.

I answered sugar for brazil. for the religion question, islam

@horusb231 That’s what I put, I hope it’s the right answer… :/

@thelemonisinplay: Sunni Islam would be the most widespread geographically, since Catholicism was confined to just Western Europe. And yeah they definitely do reuse questions, or else they wouldn’t make such a big deal about never discussing questions with anyone.

@horusb: Yep, 1910 Mexican Revolution and the communist revolution in Cuba.

@ thelemon

Can you link to the other thread?

There’s still the question about what type of people came to America the most between 1500 - 1800.

@horusb
I put Africans, but I’m not sure.

Thanks Iris and others. I had a feeling it was that after I chose Roman Catholicism, but then I disregarded it because I always second guess myself and get it wrong… But I should have changed it in this case!

Sure, it’s right here. It’s actually got a list of right answers on it too: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-subject-tests-preparation/939636-june-2010-world-history-9.html

@horusb

Isn’t it Western Europeans?

what food did marco polo not know? sweet potatoes

@horusb I put Europeans looking for religious freedom, but I was pretty sure that was wrong anyhow.
