So I've gotten one bad grade, D possible F in Precalc. this year, my other grades are As and Bs, I take two AP classes, both in which I have Bs. I'll be taking precalc over the summer at a community college (is there a difference with the credits from community college and summer school? Some CSUs say that they do not accept summer school before your senior year, but is that in terms of taking summer school at a high school or?) Other than that my overall GPA is a 3.3, What are my chances of getting into a CSU like sjsu and sdsu? Did this one bad grade ruin my chances?! I've been freaking out about this for so long :(

What is CSU? Colorado State?

@MitchIsTheMan97 He means California State University.

I suggest that you retake the class during the summer and explain to the college why you got such a bad grade.

It won’t ruin your chances, but don’t give up.

It will not ruin your chances! Especially for a CSU. Do well on the SAT/ACT, try to make up the class even if it doesn’t count because at least you showed the determination to understand the course material! Don’t give up!

@MitchIsTheMan97 - Any one of the Cal State schools. Hence his reference to sjsu (San Jose) or sdsu (San Diego). Sometimes there schools are abbreviated as CSUSJ and CSUSD.

@rzaaaa - If you can get a C or better in the community college course, you will be fine. I don’t know exactly how Cal high schools handle it, but I would think if you provide them with a record of your grade, they will include that with all info they send to colleges. The CSU’s are saying they don’t give you college credit for courses taken before your senior year, but you aren’t worried about getting credit, just getting them to know that you passed the course and so the F is essentially wiped out.

Absolutely stop freaking out. One bad grade definitely won’t keep you out of a CSU. They are not hyperselective schools. Don’t get me wrong, they are good schools, but not like the Ivy schools or other highly selective universities that take 25% or less of applicants. And a 3.3 is a good GPA, definitely in their range. But without knowing other info, like SAT scores, EC’s etc. cannot really say what your chances are. But again, that one bad grade won’t kill you, and if you do OK this summer it makes it even better.

I honestly think you have a good shot. The folks at admissions understand people aren’t perfect. But just make sure that it’s only a ONE TIME THING. And I second @fallenchemist 's advice
