no it’s honors.

i’m taking AP physics next year too. (the non calc based one, idk what letter lol.)

my teacher drops the lowest quiz grade (mine is a 70) so it should bring me back to an A-… but we have a test wednesday that i KNOW i will fail

Correction: Colleges don’t give credit for AP Exams that don’t have a score of four.

Meanwhile… We get jack **** for IB Credit.

Even after our stupid VA SB 209 got passed… colleges still hate SL Credit. Va Tech gives you one SL… only if you do the ****ing IB Diploma.

They limit the number of credits you can transfer over and some schools only accept 5’s. Also people rarely take just the AP classes they wish to continue in college

@MIT- MOST colleges. Many give credit to a 3.

Well of course they limit the credits, but if you look at the amount of credits you get with AP… it far outweighs that of IB.

I mean… at Virginia Tech, a Max of 38 hours AP Credit is transferable.

That’s fairly good.

At the same college… 30 credit hours of IB Credit is tranferable. (non-Diploma)

With Diploma… it’s 38.

But we have to get 6’s on HL exams… which is a lot harder than a 5 on an AP exam. Getting a 7 on an IB HL exam is a *****.

And at another university… let’s say University of Maryland.

From their site… I don’t see a total limit. But… they’re more lenient on AP exams than IB.

I’m just saying holistically AP (even IB) isn’t even that worth it. But it’s necessary to be competitive and take them to get past admissions. It teaches us how to work in college but you don’t really save much money.

And yeah, IB sounds like a PITA

i take AP classes for two reasons:

1) i’m ahead of 99% of my class, so i would have virtually NO classes jr and sr year
2) to remain competitive and not seem to slack off. plus i like a challenge.

sorry but i have no clue what this whole IB thing is .
my school doesnt offer it.

someone explain ?

interbaccalaureate. it’s a step up from AP (my school doesnt have it either. the school has to be certified/licensed.) if you take enough credits/pass, you get an IB degree.

EDIT: i’m adding cornell back to my list :)

ohh i see ! Ugh cornell is a tough one . it keeps going on and off of my list.
why its on: hellooo why NOT?
why its off: ithaca is rainy and cold. and after 12 years in new york, i think i’ve had enough.

sidenote: are college STILL emailing people??? i got one today from goucher that said “I wont stop emailing you …”
kinda freaky

Very few schools around me offer IB so is it just rare around the country?

I think AP is nice in the sense you don’t have to take a required number of AP classes to get anything in the end. People can take what they want

yeah, cornell is tough. i mean, my SAT scores are within the middle 50%, and they didnt report GPAs for the 10-11 schoolyear yet, but so much more goes into being accepted. i’m going to pour my HEART out into my essays. every single one (10, well 11 because im applying to two diff schools within cornell and they require an essay each.)

why its on: they have a nice computer science program, and going to a more rural area would be a shift from the lifestyle i’m used to (not sure if i’m going to like it tho haha.)

why its off: i can;t complain about the weather, because i have to stay in the northeast (per moms’s rules :()

and haha YES. i STILL get emails!!! but thats creepy o.O

EDIT: it might be more common in other places, but no schools near me do it (that i know of)

i just took my SATs on saturday so i cant compare scores yet. im taking a one week break from sat prepping before i start again for the May SAT . but going to work HARD for John Hopkins. thats my first choice . the only thing is that my dad is going to be so disappointed that im not going into law like the rest of the family. but really … in this economy, doctors are needed… not really lawyers.

anyone taking community college courses this summer?

i only compared my oct 2010 ones, i’m taking them again in sept or oct. subject tests in june :(

i take a comm class now, hopefullly i’ll be at MIT this summer so i won’t have to :)

follow your heart! it’s a tie between MIT, Smith, and Cornell for me (all reaches :()

im taking chemistry and french II over the summer .
JHU, George Washington, Cornell and Columbia are my top 4. all reaches. GWU is a low reach but a reach nonetheless.
im taking subject tests in june too ! US history definitely … and im trying to think of any others i could possible take and do well on
which ones are you taking?

math 1 and physics if i dont go to MIT this summer, i’m definately enrolling in a physics class at comm college to prep for the subject test when i take it again

oh yeah ! math 1 was the other one. i think that one only covers Algebra1, Geometry and algebra2/trig right ?

i might take chem though… in december

yeah it’s easier than math2. i bought a math 2 book by mistake…

ugh i’m going to fail physics. i NEED to take it over the summer :(

Taking Math 2, Chem, and USH.

Trying to take DE, Lin Alg, and MVC at a CC… but my parents are telling me to take it easy.

This **** is annoying. I hate being restricted.
