"In the space provided below, please elaborate on one of your activities (extracurricular, personal activities, or work experience)(150 words or fewer)."
Is the answer to this supposed to be kinda clever and fun to read, like one of the essays, or is it supposed to be a simple, informative explanation?

If I were inducted into NHS in May of junior year, I would just check the box labeled 12 for that particular activity, right? or should I include 11 and 12?

Would NHS be listed as an "academic" activity?

What should I list under "details and accomplishments" for NHS if I don't have anything yet? I could put the induction date but that seems unnecessary and desperate? And what would a normal member (no leadership positions) put for "approximate time spent?"

Would qualifying for regionals and sectionals count as "details and accomplishments" for track and cross country?

Would it be OK to write my essay about a seemingly insignificant event from when I was eight years old if I use it to show the type of person I am today? Or would adcoms prefer something more recent?

You could swing it by doing both. Elaborate on an activity, but don’t make it boring. Do make it fun to read, but still get to the point of the question - don’t beat around the bush.

That’s tricky. Did you do anything with NHS after you were inducted? Does your school have a policy of induction? For example, they only induct you the end of your Junior year? I’d like someone else to chime in on this. I would put 11 and 12, since you technically WERE inducted Junior year.

Yes. It can also be listed as an academic honor, on the Honors/Awards section.

Did you have any meetings? I would explain that you just got inducted and that you haven’t done anything eventful as of late. However, you can update this before you send it, assuming you start doing things in NHS the start of your senior year.

Yes.

If you think it works, it works. I can’t give you an opinion on that because I don’t know you, nor do I know the importance of the event. If you write the essay, I can read it and give you my advice on it.

Thanks so much for your help!

For the description of an activity, should I include additional info like how I got interested in that activity, why its important to me, etc?

For NHS at our school, its possible to be inducted in May of sophomore year, but I’m still not sure if this would count as 10, 11, 12 or just 11, 12.
Also, I’m assuming there will be a meeting or something before the EA deadline, so I would agree to just wait and update when that happens.

For the last question, I just wanted to make sure using an event from that long ago would not flaw an otherwise decent essay.
