Just got a new Macbook!

I got a new MacBook for college about a month ago at summer orientation. I got the student discount and the iPod rebate at the technology bookstore on campus, so it is not nessecary to go through the Apple store directly to get your discount and rebate.

Something about the black versus white -- I got the white MacBook because the black one is ridiculously more expensive. But just a few days after I got it, the white casing near the keyboard and on the trackpad started turning pink!! I called AppleCare and they acted clueless, but a quick Google showed me that tons of people have had this problem! Something in the white plastic reacts to natural skin oils and discolors the computer.

When I get a chance, I am going to take the computer to the Apple store (the campus bookstore is very far away from where I live) and insist on a replacement but I am not sure if they will give me one.

Apparently, some Macbooks built between Feb. through the middle of July had this problem. Does your Macbook look like this: http://appledefects.com/
If so, you need to contact Apple for a replacement:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304058

While you're at it, verify whether or not your battery is on Apple's recall list...

Good luck!

Battery recalls are only for the macbook pro right now.

I actually just called AppleCare again and I referenced that website. They are going to replace the discolored casing but I will not get a new computer, which is fine with me.

Its eally weird getting to know the os. I wasn't sure if i was stupid but i just figured out how to resize windows to make them bigger! I know, i suck. Have you noticed it only takes literally like 7 seconds for the computer to completely load up, where as on windows it takes at least 25 sec to get to the start screen? it's quite amazingly frankly.

Also has anyone succesfully loaded up openoffice.org on their macbook. For some reason i'm having trouble...

try neo office-I heard that's better for macs

Yea LaptopLover, I went with an Asus also...Asus W3J to be exact.

I got my 2ghz white mac from my campus store. 1382 for 1gb of ram upgrade and 3 years of applecare, which I think was the best deal possible. I love my mac, and I think this os x is better than vista ever will be.
