Kaplan Test Report

Hi everyone!

Today I did a practice test and here are my scores:
Math-760
Writing-750
Critical Reading-680

I gave my essay a 10 but I'm not sure about it. What would you give this essay?

Prompt: Do you believe that fantasy or imagination is more important than knowledge?

Imagination and fantasy are crucial to develop our creativity. Although in the contemporary world of today we are obligated to have basic knowledge in many fields, creativity plays a significant role in success. Imagination seems unrealistic or impossible for most people. However, those who believew in the neccessity to have dreams for a better world, are those who will achieve their goals. This assertion is illustrated by two incidents from history.

Christopher Colombus's discovery exemplifies the importance fantasy has over knowledge. Up until 1942, all the Europeans believed that the world was flat and resisted to accept Christopher's hypothesis that the world is round. When Colombus wanted to sail west and prove his theory, the queen tried to stop him and convince him that his theory contradicts the scientific rules. However, Colombus didn't give in to the scientific rules and let himself be guided by his imagination and inspiration. Consequently, Colombus arranged a ship that sailed to the west until he finally reached America. In conclusion, Colombus had fantasied a theory that lead him to one of the most influential discoveries in history. Colombus's imagination was definitely more benefitial than the general consensus that the world is flat.

Also later in history, a revolutionary leader also succeeded by letting his imagination guide him. In the slavery period when black people were mistreated and didn't recieve political rights, one determined leader named Martin Luther King Jr. had a ideal picture of the different reality he hoped for. In that time the black people were knowledgeable of the restrictions on the blacks, the power of the whites and their disability to change the current situation. Martin Luther King, on the contrary, ignored the undemocratic principles by which the country was lead and struggled to publicize his position and to change the social life in America. In Martin's famous speech he says: "I have a dream that my four little children will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." Martin emphasizes his fantasy for a world where blacs and whites will be treated equally. Eventually, he succeeds in his mission to change the society in Ameirca into one which everyone has desired for.

Albert Einstein experience expressed by his quote, "I come close to the conclusion that the gift of fantasy has meant more to me than my talent for absorbing positive knowledge", proves to be true in the past and also today. Therefore, we should never hesitate to disagree with what everyone believes and always try to fantasy or wish for something different.

How is my essay? How are my examples? What exapmles would you have chosen?

Do you think this test accurately predicts how I will do on October 7th? I got 1800 on my first SAT (October 2006) and this is my second time taking it... I don't know if to be happy or not that I'm scoring in the 2100+ range.
Thanks everyone!!!

sorry to break it to you, that score will not reflect your actual success on the sat. If it was a kaplan prep course test, then you would probably get a 2100, but if its from the prep book then no. The kaplan prep book tests are actually much easier then the real sat. If you want to see an accurate representation on the sat, then take a bluebook test. In fact your only supposed to be taking blue book tests. The blue book tests are made by the college board, and are extremely accurate.

Onto your essay. If i was a grader I would give your paper a combined score of 4, mainly because You did not take a stand on the question. You choose to do two sides of argument, and that usually is not a good thing. My kaplan teacher always stressed that its better to pick a side then mold two sides together. Your examples are great; but you didn't take a stand. If you picked a side and reworded a bit, i would give you a combined score of a 10.

^ Actually, it's fine to take two sides on an argument. I represented both sides in my essay and received a 10.

agree with zeppelin.....the kaplan practice tests are way easy. I took a few of them and scored well over 750 on all of them---suffice it to say I NEVER scored that on the SAT.

Kaplan is really not accurate!! I scored 2020 this October
