Kelley DA course selection questions and concerns.

Kelley DA parent here: I have some questions for anyone that can help.

My son is having orientation next week, it seems like some of the classes are filled up already. Unfortunately our schedule only allowed us to come next week. Anyway, he is coming in with probably 24 or so credits from 6 AP courses- mostly from AP Gov’t, AP History, AP Latin, possibly for ENG 131, possibly for Math 119 depending on the scores and he will have Finite from Ivy tech. He is also trying to get ECO 201 done as well if transfer credit office allows him to take the course near us.

He also will likely place in Japanese 2 or higher after the online test he took this week. He wants to continue to take more Japanese and some Chinese to incorporate that with his Finance degree from Kelley for his career. More then likely he will be able to take B175, B100, B201. B104 is closed out. Is he able to wait list for B104? Is he able to request if he can take B106 or B204 honors? He will likely take PHY 101 online at IU as well and one of the Language classes depending on placement exam score. He unfortunately did not get into KLLC, which I believe limits class choices?

Not getting into the KLLC is not a big deal. The process is fairly random anyway, and places value on things that you cannot control such as gender and home town. I did not get in, but still did very well in Kelley freshman year and actually spent a lot of time in the KLLC in my friends’ rooms. Not getting into the KLLC does not limit class choices. I would tell him to talk to his adviser at orientation about the Japanese classes, but you are able to wait list any class that is full. Your son is off to a good start with some useful credit coming in
