Kelley Direct Admit

I am a direct admit into Kelley and would be a part of the class of 2019. I went to direct admit day and really loved the school and business program. However, I did not apply before the Hutton Honors deadline and therefore am not in the honors college. I am concerned that not being a member of Hutton will hurt me in applying to programs at Kelley, such as Business Honors or eventually one of the IB workshops. Assuming I can do well academically and maintain a good gpa, are these still viable options to consider? I don’t want Hutton to be a setback. Thanks.

Not being in Hutton is definitely not a setback. Most Kelley students who are also in Hutton don’t even pursue the notation. If you really want to be part of Hutton, you automatically get admitted to it after your first semester if you have a 3.7.

You must ask Hutton to be admitted after you get at least a 3.7 with a minimum of 14 graded credits your first semester at IUB. Don’t forget to ask to be admitted; otherwise, you won’t be admitted.

Students who do not enter the Hutton Honors College as incoming freshmen may still be eligible for admission if their academic work during their first semester at IU is outstanding. After completion of that semester, you may ask that your record be reviewed if you are interested in participating in Hutton Honors College courses and programs. To be considered for admission at that time, you must have completed, during your first full semester at IU, a minimum of 14 graded academic credits (grades of S for Satisfactory will not be counted), and you must have maintained a 3.7 GPA.

You will be able to sign up for some business honors classes during spring semester of your freshman year if you are admitted to Hutton. Two good classes to take sophomore year are A207 Honors intro to managerial accounting and X202 Technology Honors are two good ones to take sophomore year.

My freshman daughter was in a similar position, and was invited to join Hutton Honors after her first semester. She doesn’t feel like she has missed out anything.
