I am an incoming DA to the Kelley School of Business and need help creating a schedule for next year. I will be entering kelley with credits for Microecon (E201), Finite (M118 - taken at ivy tech over the summer), Psychology (PSY-P), and Calculus (M-211). I am hoping to join Hutton honors and the business honors program as a freshman and also have hopes of joining the investment banking workshop sophomore year so GPA is really important. So far I have come up with a schedule like this:
Fall Semester:
A-100 (first 8 weeks) - 1 Credit - Vivian Winston
K201 - 3 Credits - Amy Kinser
Folk F111 - 3 Credit (A&H credit and World Culture credit) - David McDonald
JLLC required class - 1 credit
Geol G 104 - 3 credits (N&M credit) - Laura Wasylenki
Total first semester credit: 11
Spring Semester:
C 104 - 3 credits - Byron Craig
Bus T175 - 1.5 credits - Not Sure
Bus F255 - 3 credits- Haeberle
Rel-A 250 - 3 credits (A&H credit and World Culture credit) - Sylvester Johnsen
JLLC - 1 credit
Total second semester credit: 11.5
Any advice would be greatly appreciated because I am struggling to make a good schedule. If you have teacher recommendations for classes that would also be greatly appreciated. Thank you:)
You should definitely be taking more than 12 credits both semesters. I would stay within the 14-16 range (seems like a lot, but it is very manageable). To add credits, you can look up the degree planning map for your major to find other classes you will need to take that you can knock out of the way. The JLLC courses are extremely easy and will take almost no time. I’m not sure who will be teaching them this year, but I had Shelli Yoder for the first semester and Nicole Williams for the second (I loved both of them!). Compass is very similar, but there are more assignments (I recommend Professor Dutton because she made sure to give clear meaning to every assignment). If you take K201 first semester, you could take K303/304 in your second semester. I did that this year and it was nice to be able to go into the next class with fresh knowledge of Excel! I really did enjoy K304 (the honors version), so you could postpone taking that until getting into Hutton/Business Honors. I recommend Sarah Sherry for K304. If you need an english credit, definitely take that your first year. G202 and D270 are both popular classes freshman take in their second semester, so those could be good additions. Any gen eds/language credits can help pad your gpa and get them out of the way (although if you plan on studying abroad, you can save some until then).
First of all, you have to take 12 credits to be a full time student. Second, I would take K303 (a sophomore requirement) second semester because it is the next class after K201, so all the excel information you learn in K201 will still be fresh in your mind. And if you take A100 first semester, you can take A201/A202 (a sophomore requirement) second semester which is the next class after A100. If you do this, you will really be helping yourself our for your sophomore year.
