Hey, I’m asking for students who are living/have lived in the KLLC to answer. Do you really benefit? If so, what differentiates it from the average dorm? Also, how competitive is the process?
I have a son who graduated Kelley in 16 and a current DA Kelley. Both lived in the KLLC. She was just relocated this Fall due to the mold outbreak in that and multiple other freshman dorms. If you are not a direct admit there may be a real advantage as you are trying for standard admit and will be living among other business focused students. She resigned her membership second semester because she had to relocate all the way across campus as did many others who had to evacuate so it kind of defeated the purpose of paying for and being a member if not living there. There are benefits but many Kelley students or Kelley hopefuls live elsewhere their freshman. Kelley has so much programming all the time and mentoring and seminars and workshops that you can find many ways to get connected and engage with peers and staff even if you don’t opt for the KLLC. It really depends how focused you want to be in your living environment or if you want more diverse exposure. Of course there is advantage to having people right outside your door all having to do the same homework or projects. Next year the KLLC will be moving to Eigenmann hall because McNutt quad is getting closed for mold renovations and updates. The only thing I can tell you about Eigenmann is that it is more of a tower and the windows in the rooms don’t open above the 3rd floor, so if that’s an issue for you, know that. The dorm that the KLLC has been in and will be in is an average mid range price point so that it is accessible to students of all budgets who may be accepted. The process is competitive and there is usually a waitlist after admission is announced. Not all students in the KLLC are business majors or DA’s. Be prepared to write some compelling essays - I think there are 3 or 4 prompts you must answer as part of the process. Good luck on your decision.
