Lafayette College RD Class of 2023

@peachplant - thanks!

Daughter accepted
1450 Sat. Lots of Ap’s, sports, honors, etc. 4.8 gpa
4500 grant. Was hoping for what she has received at other schools 20,000 from university of Miami, Tulane, Dickinson, Drexel, Oberlin. Lafayette was a top choice but can’t do it without scholarship money.
She’s devastated.

Yes award was in package. D only received 4500 grant. She’s devastated.

My mail arrives early.

@Lateacher8 – it’s absolutely none of my business, but is your EFC on the high side? I thought Lafayette was generous with financial aid, from everything I’ve read.

@lateacher8 - you can try appealing the award. As long as the other universities are comparable insitutions, you can respectfully ask them to reconsider the award explaining that Lafayette is her first choice, but that since she has received other offers as well, you’re compelled to consider them. Just be sure to convey appreciation of getting an acceptance and their offer. However, the smaller the endowment, the less likely they are to match, but you never know and if it is her first choice, I don’t think there’s anything to lose. The attached link has some info:

Good luck!

I was also under the impression they met “100% of a family’s need”. I’m curious about this at Lafayette

Son accepted…3.93 GPA 5 AP and 14 honors… 2 varsity sports and Unified, college level internship, NHS, tons of service ACT 31
@Lateacher8 yes, Lafayette is a “needs-based” school excepting their limited number of scholarships…our EFC comes in at full pay, so no grant money there…(makes it tough to pass up the 20-25k a year merit at comparable schools)

@IWentToCollege they are generous with need based aid depending on EFC…

@IWentToCollege our efc was 51. It’s high but I was hoping they’d meet the difference. She was so excited until she saw the financial page. ? this whole process is so hard!

waitlisted

Accepted.

3.8 UW/4.2 W GPA and 1430 SAT. All honors and AP.
Good extracurricular activities.

@Lateacher8 I would appeal the offer if your daughter really wants to go there…

@JackHakula do you mind posting your stats?

@Lateacher8 Yep, this whole process is hard. Some colleges have been more generous than others. Drexel wasn’t generous with us at all, but others were decent. It’ll be over soon!

Son accepted. Big envelope came in mail today. Received a need based grant, but no merit scholarship. Lafayette is the only school he applied to who did not offer any kind of merit based scholarship. For that reason, Lafayette is off his list. Too bad.
1460 SAT
32 ACT
4.2 weighted GPA

waitlisted, but committing to another great school!

@SPA2100 I’m sorry that you got waitlisted but I wish you the best where you are committing!

Accepted from Bronx, NY . Received letter in the mail today and I’m going to commit because I was offered basically a full ride .

@scholar2019senio - congrats and lots of luck!
