My D accepted with the Marquis Scholarship ($24k). 1560 SAT, 102 W GPA, lots of ECs/leadership, interviewed.
For future students, my D attended the Dynamic Assessment to be considered for the Fellowship, and students came from all over the country – Alaska, California, Idaho, Arkansas, etc. – as well as international. The competition is tough!
@Mickman - yes I’ve been seeing familiar names across the various boards where he’s applied too lol!
My son is still waiting to hear on 2 schools, so it’s hard to say. He’s waiting on his reach schools, but without a hook I can’t imagine any of them are going to end with a “big” envelope, and he’s ok with that. A school he really liked and would have seriously considered was Northeastern due to their coop emphasis, but he didn’t get in. So far he has been accepted to his safety schools and other target schools, but he’s a very practical kind of kid and it’s all about the bottom line for him. He doesn’t want to take on any debt, and he doesn’t want us to have to take out a ton of loans either.
The least expensive option is Binghamton as he’s an instate student, and he was accepted to a research program that he was very interested in which sweetened the deal. However, GWU offered a generous scholarship (almost double AU’s) and Fordham came through with merit and a grant, which would be awesome as he’d be close to NYC for internships and research opportunities. And while he was accepted at VIllanova, we don’t have any idea about their merit or FA package yet as he can’t get into the portal, so we’re waiting for snail mail. We can’t ignore that the last three options are more expensive, even with merit, so we’ve got a lot of thinking to do.
I have one other in college who will be a senior next year, so any school that offers S19 a grant, rather than an actual merit award, has to be evaluated carefully - I’m concerned that the moment his brother graduates, that grant disappears in a puff of smoke. So there you have it: a very long explanation that essentially boils down to “IDK”
Congrats on the Marquis award - if you’re down to 2 choices, you’re almost there!!! Best of luck
Accepted! Stats: 1420 SAT 700 US Hist. 4.0 WGPA. Decent ECs. Really good CA Essay. Pretty good amount of AP/Avd classes. I visited this summer and interviewed (thought it went well). Anything else, just ask. Congrats to others accepted and to WLs and rejected, I am POSITIVE you will find your place :).
S accepted today! He is homeschooled for any future homeschoolers out there. He received tons of grant aid, but he already has a full ride elsewhere. He has several other decisions coming up this week.
Congratulations out there to everyone accepted. Hopefully everyone will find their perfect fit.
i just realized that my parents never submitted my financial aid information i.e css profile, so we will submit and see what happens. hopefully the marquis fellowship ($40k per year) paired with grant money will help cover some of the portions we can’t pay.
International student here… Haven’t received any mail yet and my online portal says, “Please log in March 27 after 3:00 pm eastern time for status updates and/or reply forms.”
waitlisted
3.7 uw gpa
1450 SAT (750 math, 700 english)
good ec
personal statement - very personal, essay - talked about my visit last year + this past fall
thought i had a really good shot at getting in
@BD2023 yeah same ah it says check portal on 27 March. But I’m so done lol I’m asking for so much aid ah I’ve already been like waitlisted at 3 places and only accepted to Bryn Mawr with pretty little aid so yeah not expecting anything
Congratulations to those who are accepted. I am following this post to get a sense of who is getting merit scholarships. We would not qualify for financial aid. My daughter (current junior) might apply next year. Political science/ history major. She is planning on applying to Muhlenberg and hoping to get generous merit. Planning to visit this summer. Seeing this thread, we should probably visit Lafayette, too. 1540 SAT, 3.9 unweighted GPA, extra curriculars, community service. To those who got the Marquis, do you think she has a good shot? If she would not get significant merit at Lafayette she would choose elsewhere.
@silverpurple sure that seems about my stats and I received the Fellowship. However I think Lafayette cares a lot about fit and the interview/ why Lafayette essay are a huge part of being invited to the scholarship weekend so I’d recommend really finding some compelling reasons about why she wants to go there. Oh and definitely visit and interview an AO told me that they view the interview as really important
Rejected. That stings. It’s been a rough couple weeks for DD’s ego. She worked her rear off for four years and thought she’d have more options than this. The good news is she has THREE incredible schools who not only want her, but want her enough to give a lot of money to get her. So she’s a bit blue, right now. But in a day or two I suspect we’ll be buying a Gettysburg hoodie! Congrats to all who made it, here…Layafette is wonderful. But so are lots of other institutions. Blessings, all.
S accepted high 1400’s on SAT, lots of extra curricular activities including sports and music, lots of leadership positions. No merit aid apparently. That is going to make it tough. We are one of the (un)lucky ones. We have good income and we saved money instead of blowing it so we have a decent net worth. Still we will have two sons in College and still do not qualify for financial aid. Though he loved Lafayette just don’t know if it makes sense to pay full freight when he was given merit aid at other similarly rated LAC’s with the amounts ranging from $15,000 to $32,000. Thinking of reaching out to Lafayette and asking them to reconsider. Thoughts?
