Proficiency in a Language Other Than English

Students may demonstrate proficiency for the purpose of fulfilling the Language Other Than English IGETC requirement in one of the following ways:

* Complete two years of high school coursework in one language other than English with a grade of C or better.

Well thing is, it’s the IGETC we’re talking about. IGETC’s are certified by your CC, not the UCs.

In my case, I studied high school abroad (ESL here) but my CC won’t give me credit for LOTE, just because there ain’t anyone who could test me. I even brought my transcripts from 1st grade till HS for them to see lol.

Yes high school foreign language WILL count for IGETC even if they are not AP’s. I just got my IGETC certified last month. You have to give your CC an official high school transcript though. But i am not sure about that D that you received. You should consult with your counselor on that issue.

^yes. that’s what i did to, but i went up to spanish 3 in 10th grade. when UCs say u need 2 years in a foreign language, they don’t actually mean u have to take TWO years of it. you just need to take the equivalent of a second yr level class or higher. so if you’re mexican and just skipped spanish 1 and 2 and started out at spanish 3, then that’s ok.
