I have originally planned on applying to two schools, but yesterday I got an email and phone call from the atheltic recruiter of another school I got waitlisted to last year. He asked if I was istill interested in applying to (blank for now) and that his school is looking to recruit kids for football for my position and my calibor. I did send them my SSAT score, but NOTHING ELSE. No interview, essays, like really nothing. The recruiter said as long as I get the application in by Saturday ( which i just did) and send my recs and essay by next friday (even though its past deadline) I will be fine. They even waived my application fee. The recruiter said that the (blank for now) academy would really be interested in my application and I would have full support from the football program and considered me a top recruit. I don't know how I should interpret this, should I apply? Is this school genuinly interested in me?

I am applying as a Junior repeat. 3.6 gpa, 97 percent on ssat, decent recs, and well football

This sounds very promising. Fingers crossed.

However – apply to two schools anyway. There are no guarantees and other’s have noted that calls from enthusiastic coaches got their hopes up and the final nod didn’t come. A full committee has to make the decision. If they decide to pass, then you’ll have a second option.

I think your case may be different given the lateness of the call - but still…

In this case - the “bird” is not yet in the hand.

Apply to both schools. The year my d applied she received a phone call from a student at Exeter on behalf of the admissions office in mid to late February asking if she had any questions etc. We took it as a sign that she was definitely in, why else would they be calling that late in the process? D was not accepted.

Wow, emdee. That’s horrible. I hate when schools do stuff like that. Maybe she was pulled at the last minute? Maybe they were gauging her interest? There is just too much guesswork in this process. I wish BS’s had something like ED. Wouldn’t that simplify things?

It was strange to receive such a phone call so late in the process and not be accepted a few weeks later. Exeter was not high on her list, so she was fine. But the lesson for me was to take all these positive signals with a grain of salt. Whether it is an interviewer saying you would be perfect here or a coach urging you to apply make sure you apply to more than one school so you will have options on March 10.
