What do you mean by insight? If you get accepted they’ll send you a packet with more information about that particular program.

I didn’t get into Penn and of Cornell and Georgetown were my second choices. I was a little disappointed but I got into UMichigan so I’m satisfied :). Any other Rossies out there?

seke67,
I am one of the program directors at Ross. If you have any questions related to LEAD at Ross, I can help you. Congratulations on your acceptance!

Thank you! I actually do have a pretty general question about the program. I know throughout the program we take various field trips and attend classes, but how are we to spend our free time? I know in other summer programs, you attend your classes, and the rest of your time is spent doing any other necessary assignments and basically-whatever you want. Are we allowed to roam the campus? The town? Can we make use of the campus’ facilities (i.e. gym, computer labs)? Should we bring a laptop?

seke67,

You will be able to explore campus duing your free time; you will find that, unlike other college campuses, central campus at the University of Michigan is part of the town, not separated from it. The dorm you will be living in is a good walk from the business school, and you’ll have plenty of opportunity to walk through Ann Arbor.

Depending upon the schedule, which we are still fleshing out, the computer labs may, or may not be utilized. As for the CCRB (Central Campus Recreation Building), again, that may, or may not be an option. As for laptops, we do discourage students from bringing expensive personal items from home. To do the work necessary for the program, we will make resources available here, and you will not need to bring a laptop from home.

I’d be glad to answer any other questions you may have in this forum, or if you’d rather e-mail me directly, my e-mail is lkinc@umich.edu . Usually in mid-to-late June, there is a conference call scheduled for all participants, we go over program specifics, and leave plenty of time for Q&A.

has anybody been accepted off the waitlist?

Thank you!

I actually do have a few more questions. Will the program consist of primarily classes/assignments, field trips, or an equal balance of both? How is the food? Will we only be eating in the dining hall? How is the rooming situation handled? Is everyone assigned a single or will I have a roommate (or roommates)?

seke67,

There will be an equal balance of both, the beginning of the program spent “learning” and the second half of the program “doing”. The meals that we eat on campus will be served in the new dining facility, and I’ve heard the food is quite good. We will be eating out as a group, or at the sponsor sites when we visit them, as the schedule allows.

The program will be housed in Markley Dorm, which is a good 15 minute walk from the Business School. All of the students will be assigned a roommate; at the Ross program there will be 28 students, 14 boys and 14 girls.

My dad spoke to the people at LEAD and they said the deadline was over for the kids to respond. The lady said because there were so many kids on the waiting list they are making placements right away in the place of kids who didnt respond. Those kids are crazy, im glad my dad called. He said thats they way you let them know you are interested no matter what!

What school were you placed on the wait list for?

Does LEAD send out confirmation to the kids who sent in there responses last week?

I haven’t received one. I called them today to confirm and they gave me the a-okay. Try that.

Hey i got into Lead Michigan today off the wait list if your serious about it, call up and they will have you send in recent information . They are still making decisions but i don’t know for how much longer. I got a phone call today.

Hey Kisagrl

Did you call them up today and ask to give them the recent info or how did that work?

Well this is what happened
I told my mom to call to see if i was rejected b.c i was tired of waiting
And they told her to send in my most recent report card and my standardized test grades
that was like a day ago
and then today she called them and they said i got into Michigan
but they are still making decisions so you should call asap definitely before Friday because they close over the weekend

If you got in, could you post or PM me your stats?

Hope I can get in next year. White male, so I don’t have diversity going for me.

Thanks

does anyone know if attending the LEAD program at a particular school give you a better chance of actually getting accepted for college at the school?
does it give you an extra push over others who have applied?

gigi2010,

Acceptance at a college is not a given; you are in the same pool with the rest of the applicants. In some colleges that sponsor a LEAD program, the application fee is waived if you are a LEAD alum. You will also, during the program, get to speak with the admissions staff. They will tell you what they look for when reading application files. A school gets upwards of 4-5 times more applicants than they have available slots to fill.

On the other hand, participation in LEAD, and other academically challenging summer programs, shows application readers that you are serious about your education, and go the extra mile. That, if accepted, you will very likely make a success of your college career, and that you are a very strong candidate for admission.

So, in answer to your question, you will have advantages that others don’t, you will have a real life look at what college life is like, and You will have an unforgettable summer as part of the LEAD program. But, ultimately, your experience with LEAD,and the college you attend will be what you make of it.

I got accepted in Lead Enginnering, how different is the business to the engineering?
Anyone been to Lead Engineering at U of Michigan? Can you tell me about your experience.

when are the payments due and what are we supposed to do if we are interested in financial aid?

also, does anyone know around when you get the packet from the school you actually got into? i got into the wharton one
