I got a very large state university, and my question is do a lot of people tend to leave on the week ends especially in the spring? I only go to school an hour away from my hometown, so I usually go home for the weekends. Usually on Facebook I always see my friends from college also go out of town to other big cities for the weekend. Or toward Friday I see a lot of people asking for carpool rides. Personally I go home because it doesn’t feel like there’s much to do over the weekend in my college town other than go to bars at night. I’m also from a small town and I prefer to be where it’s rural compared to my college town, while it may not be a big city it’s more than what I’m used to. Plus I get annoyed putting up with the bad traffic and my loud neighbors. I usually leave Friday afternoon and take my books, laptop, and laundry, and come back Sunday.I like that I can spend time hanging out in my hometown while also getting my work done. Does anyone else that goes to a large university feel the same way?
I think that a lot of students go home on the weekends, especially freshmen. I know that a lot of people will tell you not to go home every weekend, but if you’re not into the whole “party scene”, then it’s not bad to want to go home every weekend.
I go to a smaller school and I tend to go home every weekend too. The only reason I would stay is if there is a certain event or activity I want to stay for. I know some people say you shouldn’t go home every weekend, but it is your college life. I have a lot of anxiety and depression issues so going home is my time to recharge. I think some people have a tough time understanding that, but I need to to do it in order to be successful in college. Whatever works for you is totally fine
I stay but also go to college at least 4 hours away from home, and not many people live near school so like 95% stay every weekend. I don’t think I would go home even if I lived near by just because weekends best part of school for me lol, why stay for all the work and leave when fun starts.
I don’t believe it is healthy to ‘need’ to go home in order to do well in college. There is something very wrong with your situation if things are that desperate, IMO. College should be a blast, and if it’s not, you should try and find ways to fix what’s wrong so that you can enjoy it more.
You are absolutely right, but do you really want to remember college as being such a miserable time that you needed to go home every weekend?
Yeah i go home every week on Thursday. I dont have classes on Friday
I don’t even live on the main campus, it’s 20 minutes away from my house so if I don’t have any group projects to work on or don’t have class I spend as little time as possible there. My first 3 years I spent at regional campuses. I badly wish I could return there, loved the relaxed environments and I had good working relationships with everyone that I worked in groups with there. I’m on the main campus to finish my degree for my last year, this is my last semester and this year has been the least enjoyable college year I’ve had so far. I’m naturally a private person so I don’t like to go out and get drunk which is what I heard pretty much the main campus does. I can’t wait for this semester to be over. Not trying to sound like an angry person but I just hate this environment up on the main campus because all it is is snobby rich kids that have mommy and daddy pay for their schooling and I’m one of those people that has paid every cent of my education by myself through working in the summers. That just extremely irritates me that the main campus thinks it’s better than us kids that don’t come from rich families and had to take a different route to pay for their education that’s why I hate it there.
