@CIRCUITDEBATER
Doodle4Google State and Territory winners. If I do win my state, I have the opportunity to be one of the 5 national winners. Then I could probably become the overall national winner.
Does anyone know how exactly we will be notified in January/February if we progress to the next stage? For some reason, I would never get an email from LEDA when I would save my application even though they said I should. I know its too soon to be worrying about things like this, but I’m just so overwhelmed and need a distraction from Finals! What kind of classes are yall taking and what do your interests look like?
@CIRCUITDEBATER previous years, LEDA has notified by email… I’m in AP English, APUSH, Algebra III, and A&P… My school doesn’t offer many AP classes…
My interests are mainly based around performing. I absolutely love to perform.
This year I am taking:
AP Lang
AP Psych
AP Calc AB
AP Environmental Science
Spanish 3
Pre-AP Chem
AP Seminar (7th hour which means that I take it after school)
Mock Trial (Will be my second 7th hour next semester. AP Sem teacher is a Mock Trial coach.)
I am interested in medicine, social/civil rights (I’m an activist), and cultural studies (African-American and Native American cultures if I have to be very specific).
I am very passionate about making sure that all Americans have access to life-supporting resources like water.
Btw… Flint, Michigan has not had clean/usable water since April 24, 2014.
I’m taking:
AP Psych
Photo (California High School Students need to take a performing art. For some reason Forensics doesn’t count but Photography does lol)
AP Comp
APUSH
AP Calc AB
APES
I’m not entirely sure what I want to do specifically, but I think I want to go into the social studies. I’m interested in cultural studies (race relations), non-profit work, international relations, and South Asian Studies ( I’m an activist for Equality for Sikhs and I teach people at my school what it is. If you don’t know what it is or have any questions about it, feel free to pm me. My experience tells me most people don’t know what it is so they mislabel and stereotype us).
@aspiringgirl Do you think they plan on doing anything about the water crisis? What can we do to help?
The state of Michigan thought that it would be a good idea to save money by switching Flint’s water supply from Lake Huron to the Flint River. The water is known to locals for its filth, so they kinda thought it was a joke. An even bigger problem was that the water/water pipes were not treated with an anti-corrosive agent because of cost. So the state switched them back to Lake Huron, and they are hoping that the Phosphorus in the water fixed the Lead problem in the pipes. They said it should take a couple months, but they still don’t have clean water.
You can go volunteer in Flint in person, or you can donate sealed water bottles or filters.
helpforflint.com has some more information.
I realize now that I have failed in actually telling about myself. I was very tired when I wrote that…
I’m very interested in psychology. I want to be a psychiatrist and help adolescents when I get older. I also spend free time obsessing over all things equality. I am a strong feminist and @aspiringgirl I absolutely love that you are speaking of that, since many people seem not to care. (Your school also offers so many AP classes wow)
@AspireandDream
I’m very fortunate that my parents allowed me to switch schools after freshman year because I used to go to a really bad intercity school that didn’t have many AP’s and was for low-income students.
I am very interested in politics and my two prinary activities are tennis and debate.
My classes:
AP Government
AP/ IB English 3
AP/ Math
IB Economics SL
Pre-IB US History
IB Theory if Knowledge
Debate 3
IB French 4
@univbound101
That’s clutch, what kind of debate do you do and did you attend nats last year?
I’ll jump in this too. I take AP classes (chem, gov, world history, and comp gov and English this upcoming semester), but also I’m obsessed with Hamilton, harry potter, and books :)>-
@CIRCUITDEBATER I do Public Forum, but I did attend Nats last year. I am hopefully to go this year though. Do you know if Nats interferes with LEDA this year?
@univbound101
Nationals is June 18-23 in Birmingham, Alabama
I’m pretty sure that they don’t conflict. I think LEDA starts June 25th but I can’t find the actual dates online.
In Denver, CO, police have been taking away blankets, tents, etc from the homeless people in the winter! In Denver, it usually gets as cold as 1 degree Fahrenheit. It is a part of the city’s camping ban which prevents unauthorized camping on sidewalks. SO the officers are taking blankets as “evidence” of the violation.
My heart hurts right now. It is WAY too cold for someone to sleep outside, but not having anything to keep you warm is 100 times worse.
@brilliantbachu I LOVE Hamilton.
@aspiringgirl I’ve heard about that! This violates multiple articles under The Universal Declaration of Human Rights. People affected by homelessness are domestic refugees. People love to ignore how easy it can be to find yourself on the streets.
Everybody has so many AP and IB classes. My school only offers one for juniors (AP Lang) and I’m taking it currently. Our school is fairly new too so that might be the problem. Other than that I take Pre-calc, Writing 3, Physics, ACT Math/English, Personal Finance, U.S. gov’t/ Economics, and Piano II. For extracurriculars I have newspaper, which I’m editor-in-chief/president, and a community service group. and maaybeee soccer I haven’t decided.
do you guys want to start a group chat?
@g0ldw0lf
Your school has a class for ACT Prep?
@CIRCUITDEBATER My school has ACT Prep, but I hear that it’s basically just a free class.
