Leda Scholars Application: 2016-2017

So did you get a email when you sumitted?

@athena11 Were we supposed to?

idk …did anyone?

I’m looking back on my essays…uhhh…cringing on the inside

No one got an email @athena11
It just said something along the lines of “Your response has been submitted.”

ok, thanks!

Only for juniors and it’s a semester for each subject. We’re supposed to do science in the math class and writing in the english but it doesn’t always work out that way. It’s something though so i’m grateful.

Just some general advice for everyone: You can link your PSAT/SAT Scores to Khan Academy and get free prep there. Its still in its early stages, but its still pretty good. You can also use this website called Prep Factory. They also give free prep lol. My school doesn’t teach ACT/SAT in any formal setting so I just find free stuff online. Best of luck to whoever still needs to take the SAT/ACT

Also, I remember someone bringing up Flint and this article that I read reminded me of that. It says that there are at least 1,000 places worse than Flint and after reviewing this map, and it turns out my city is one of those places. Everyone should spend a few minutes to look at this, figure out if this is a problem in their communities, and should start a campaign in their community to do something about it. Water should be a fundamental right and with the levels of contamination so high in Flint, many of us begin to think that this is something that will never affect us. It is affecting us, and if we all do something about it in our communities, then that’s one step closer to our right for clean water.

@CIRCUITDEBATER
Wow! We really do need to do something about this. I realize how much I take clean, great tasting tap water for granted because my city has won an award for the best tasting water two times in a row at a regional conference.

Does anyone know what a good PSAT score is?

I take:

AP(U.S. History, environmental, english and calculus A/B) + psych. creative photography and SAT prep

***** sorry a little late on my schedule

Also, if someone that declines to go to LEDA do they open it to the next runner up? If anyone knows???

@AspireandDream +1400 should be considered really good

@AspireandDream I assume around a 1200 and up because that’s the 90th percentile marker. They don’t ask until the second round and have test prep available for a reason.

@AspireandDream
I think that’s a pretty “case by case” scenario. My understanding is that LEDA does not emphasize high PSAT Score Thresholds for admittance to LEDA. They recognize that there is a strong correlation between income and Standardized Testing and that at LEDA, they do everything that they can to close the gap. I’m sure that former Leda Scholars such as @Ahmeda14960 or @cryinginspanish can comment or on this. From what I read on last year’s blog and I think earlier on this one, only 7 of the 100 scholars had an ACT score of 30 or more or an SAT Score of 1400 or more.

@Hamlon @CIRCUITDEBATER oh no… I was honestly just wondering in general.

What did the counselors send in?

@athena11, I believe they sent in a transcript and answered some questions about our school.
@AspireandDream, I think the 2nd part of my original answer does in deed answer your question. You can dm your score if you want and I can tell you what I think, but having talked to some of last year’s LEDA Scholars, they say that its one of the least significant parts of our application.

@CIRCUITDEBATER I think I’ll just try not to think about it for the time being. Only about 15 people took the PSAT at our school and none of us were quite familiar with what sent you to NM semifinalist level, but I think I’ve pretty much found the answer…
