? Likely Letter

i think the EA acceptance rate is around 17%, not to be confused with the 18% out of state quota

I got one, but I still want to get the official acceptance letter before I believe it. I'm 99% sure I'll end up at UNC, but it depends on scholarships, etc. I also got a call, but my mom took it since I was, ironically enough, out studying at a coffee shop. She called and told me and I had to leave because I was pretty much jumping up and down. That was a really good day.

How many of these do you thing were sent out?

no, what i meant was, that i didnt know UNC defers people.

jf215-
I do know of several people who have been deferred EA in the past years from UNC. At the same time, during the admission session at UNC, they did say that they don't defer any/many (not sure which). I don't know if things have changed for this year; maybe someone can find out for sure.

looked on the website, didnt say anything about it.

i got one! yayness

"are you sure? because i'm like 99% sure that if you dont get in EA, that's it. you're done."

nooooo! that is not true at all. a ton of kids from my high school didn't get in EA but got in regular. i have 3 friends who were deferred EA, then deferred again regular, then rejected, then got a call that was like "Are you still interested" (during the summer) and were told they were in. so don't give up hope... BUT, if you are rejected from your first choice school, wherever it may be, know that it will be ok. i was too.. well from my first, and second, and third. but it all works out. college is what you make of it. you're not bound to the place you start off either, but chances are you'll love it and want to stay there. and in a way, rejection's kind of empowering..it makes you stronger and you think that maybe you'll work just a little harder because of it. you're all obviously smart, concerned students with a genuine concern for your future, and i promise you you'll end up at a university who is happy for you to be there. best of luck to you all ! i'll be thinking about you when admissions are posted! :)

I believe that one of the reasons that UNC sends out these letters is because they are so much later than other schools for their EA decisions, and they need to keep their applicants "interested". You may not be accepted even after one of these letters, and on the other hand, you may be, even without the letter.

I don't know, I find it hard to believe that they would send letters and then not accept the student. It just seems, well, kind of mean. Maybe there are a couple of exceptions, but they aren't sending these letters out to everyone; I'd say it's pretty safe to assume that if you have good grades and scores and recieved a letter or phone call, you are in. I hope.

i think if you get a letter, you're basically in.......but a lot of people got in EA and whatever who didn't get the letters.

i really hope i am one of those people......

Ya I got this letter in the mail. I have also been invited to several of the science spectrum workshops and have recieved a phone call inviting me to tour the campus and have lunch with a student on campus. I hope I will get selected for the honors program, but I'm not gonna get my hopes up to soon.

HumBucker - congrats on the letter. When did you turn in your application? Because I turned mine in on the last possible day for EA..and I'm still hoping to get one of those letters. Does anyone know if they send out those letters in order they recieve the applications?

I turned mine in about two weeks early, but it may also result from the fact that my last name starts with a B. Honestly, however, I dont really know.

I submitted my application on 10/31, and my last name is in the middle of the alphabet, so I don't think either of those played a role. Just hang on until the 31st,Tinker2121...

I got the same call and invitation to go tour campus, visit a class, and eat with a student back in mid-november but i didn't recieve one of those letters. I hope I end up at UNC, only about 3 more weeks until the decisions come out.
