I am now puzzle about which side of the dorm should I apply for. Some people I know recommended the western since it's newer. However, from what I have seen, eastern dorm is near to the main road and may be a better location if I want to hang around outside the campus and buy something I need. And eastern dorm lives more freshmen.
Can anybody tell me some of your idea about which one is a better fit? Thank you.

Both east and west have their trade-offs. The dorms on the east side are older, but they’ve also been renovated.

Benefits to East:
- More freshman means you get more of the “college experience” and it’s easier to meet people
- Closer to freshman classes
- Closer to the MARTA station
- Closer to off-campus food
- Closer to fraternities/sororities
- Closer to sports stadiums
- Closer to off-campus parking if you bring a car and pay to store it off-campus

Benefits to West Campus:
- Closer to CRC (gym, intermural fields, etc)
- Closer to under the couch
- Quieter / Safer (not that east campus isn’t safe, just that the off-campus crime tends to be South and East of campus)
- Better dining hall
- Westside Market (convenience store)

For your first year, I recommend east. After that, west side for sure. It’s important to acclimate yourself as quickly and thoroughly as possible, and east is best for that.

I’ve lived on West campus for the last three years. I never liked East campus as I am not a big fan of football, neutral with respect to Greek Life, and dislike the proximity to the highway and the noise that results. West campus is a lot quieter, which I like, and the first-year dorms - especially Hefner, Folk, Caldwell, and Armstrong - are nicer. Comparing Caldwell to Glenn, the rooms in Caldwell are larger, and the showers are physically compartmentalized as opposed to the draped prison showers that you find in Glenn.

Wow. They still have those? The communal showers scarred me for life. It was disgusting the stuff I saw… to this day I get flashbacks.

Anyway, before moving in anyway, stand outside the dorm and wait for someone to walk in, and ask to see he room. Most people are accommodating and people ask all the time. Then go look at the bathroom to see what you’re getting into.

G.P.Burdell,

That was true as of July 2007, when I stayed in Glenn for FASET. As I haven’t been inside since, it could have been updated in the two and a half years since.

I was last in that building two decades ago. So if they’re still there in the mid 2000’s, then they’re still there now.
