Living at College Ave with Engineering Major

From what I read in posts on this forum and other resources as well, everyone says that if you want to be in the most lively area of the New Brunswick campus, living on College Ave is a must. I will be majoring in Engineering, however, so most of my classes will probably be on Busch. Is it a bad idea to live on College Ave and take classes on Busch, or is the commute there not bad? How long would a bus take to get to Busch?

Thanks!

The situation really hangs on the type of person you are. If you are a serious partyer then stay on college ave, you won't regret it. Otherwise I highly recommend going to Busch because of its great qualities. It has the best dining hall (by far), the newest buildings, the best student center, (if you are a girl): the cutest guys, (or if a you are a guy): your classmates. The commute between college ave and busch is 7 minutes (probably the shortest of all the rides) changing slightly depending on where you want to go. Again, I highly reccomend busch

I have several friends who like to party but if your an engineer and your a first year student, you might want to live on Busch.

What a coincidence, I am an engineer living on the College Ave campus :D

First off, Busch does not have the best dining hall by far, the best one by far would either be on Livingston or Cook/Douglass. College Ave and Busch have the worst dining halls.

I lived on Busch my first two years, and I enjoyed it but it was too boring for me there. The campus is dead on weekends, and relatively quiet for most of the year (except for football game nights). Commuting from college ave to busch can be a hassle when it has snowed a lot, or just when the traffic is heavy, but you get used to it. On average, I have to wait for about 5 minutes at the bus stop, the most I've waited is 20 minutes and other times I've gotten lucky and got to the bus stop at the same time the bus got there. You can always use nextbus.com though to show the times the bus will get to your stop.

Bus rides can vary, it can take 10 to 20 minutes depending on the time of day, the weather, and the bus driver too. Also make sure to know which bus you want to take, there are 2 buses: A and H. H stops at the Busch student center first, A goes to the stadium and around the campus first before it hits the student center.

Living here has been better than living on Busch. Just remember to organize yourself, you can plan out when you're going to study, how you're going to set up a commute, etc. I know a lot of engineers other than myself who live on college ave, and they all like living here too compared to busch.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

^ Wow that is quite a statement to say that Livingston has one of the dining halls and Busch being one of the worst. Yes Cook/Douglass is usually considered the best but the only thing Livingston has going for it is takeout. Busch food is much better than both Livingston and College Ave in my opinion.

Thanks for all the great info!

How do the dorms compare between the two campuses? Is it pretty much the same thing?

If I do room on College Ave, can I still use my meal plant at Busch, if, for example, I have friends that live there and want to eat with them once in a while?

Yea meal plans work at any dining hall.

The dorms on Busch are better than College in my opinion, but it all really depends on where you live.

In what way are they better? More space, or just nicer looking because they're newer?

The Busch dorms are larger, have air condition (only Hardenburg and I belive Stonier on College Ave have air condition), and are generally better looking. The only exception is the Davidson halls on Busch, but if your an engineer I don't think you'll have to worry about that.

I recently read that Davidson residence halls are having some termite problem. Just wanted to add that since Inkontrol mentioned about Davidson halls not being the best.

How do they determine which halls to place the students in anyway since the students are no longer able to chose the dorms themselves??? Is it like a lottery???

Yeah the Davidson halls have termites and have had plumbing problems in the past as well. I'm pretty sure dorms are random placing for freshman. They try and match your prefrences that you chose on your survey and where your first semester classes but besides that its just wherever they have space.

Oh! So it's just random placing.

Ok, thanks for the response :)

In regards to certain foods, I would have to say that Tillett pizza is way better than Busch...

All the bathrooms at Rutgers are dirty. Bring Lysol disinfecting wipes to college. Busch has the best dining hall. The dining hall at the other campuses is horrible. College Ave has better food in the weekends, but they usually have really bad food in general. You will have to decide for yourself. Here is the link
