Hey everyone! I'm hoping to go to UCF Fall 2011, but I'm curious as to what living at the Rosen Campus is actually like. Boring? Pretty? Calm? Any opinions would be great :D I'm am planning on being a hospitality major and most of my gen eds will be done by the time I get there if that changes anything. Thank you :)

The Rosen campus is pretty and looks like a resort and the apartments aren’t bad, although I hate the bathroom layout (sinks are outside). It’s not a huge deal but I like complete bathroom privacy. You get a kitchen which is cool, but make sure you can cook because if you set off the alarm and the firetrucks come, your apt will be fined $300. Since the stoves smoke easily when you turn them on, I just think it’s a $$ conspiracy;)

Overall the campus is very boring. A lot of people say that. It’s about 45 minutes from the main campus where more goes on and Rosen feels like a commuter school or community college all over again. The only clubs here are hospitality/event management/restaurant related so if you’re either a non-hospitality major, or if you wanted to join a film, art, book or some other type of recreational club, you’re going to have to commute which is kind of off putting given the tolls on the highway. There aren’t many events on this side. Don’t be fooled by the first week of school activities, not much else happens and not many participate.

There is a shuttle that takes kids from Rosen to Main and back, but it’s Mon-Thurs, and stops at 6. They’re trying to extend the days and hours though.

There is a workout room but it’s all the way where the classrooms are. Not a huge deal but it would be more convenient had it been closer to where the students actually lived. The cafe has food that most don’t eat. They also serve Starbucks coffee and the bookstore has a lot of cool stuff too. The library is filled with industry related material. If you’re looking for a good novel, don’t bother. They do give free scantrons in there though.

It’s not hard to find parking as opposed to finding parking at main. Decal’s are $5. Usually on the weekends people go home or away so again, it’s boring. If the students aren’t leaving for the weekend they’re working. The people here work A LOT. There isn’t much to do in this area unless you have the money to shell out for theme parks or Universal’s City Walk.

Sorry if I’m giving you a crappy review but I live/attend here and absolutely hate it. The classes to me are just as lame as the campus. But everyone’s got a different view. Others like it and prefer the campus/area to the other side. They like the calmness and quiet and it’s closer to the jobs and internships. It’s small and easier to get to know people in your program, which makes it easier to network after graduation. I do like the fact that I can just walk to class after waking up ten minutes before it starts though.

Good luck.

My student has toured rosen and really wants to live there, but is afraid she will be missing out on the real “college experience”. Are there any fun things happening on the weekends? Dorm parties? Anything?
