LOAs

Schedules seem to change a little year to year, however the USNA admissions web site does say that outstanding candidates could recieve an LOA as early as September. It implies that academic excellence is the #1 motive for LOA's but I can see it as a vital tool for top athletes as well. It specifically says that you don't need your BGO, CFA, Medical, nomination complete to get an LOA.

Our son's BGO just emailed us and informed us that last Thursday the board voted to grant our son a "Conditional LOA". His vision is not the greatest but he was deemed "waiverable" by the DODMEB. Any thoughts on exactly what this means?

All LOA's are conditional to passing and maintaining all qualifications. So if he keeps everything within spec (MED, Academics, PAE, etc) AND obtains any nomination, he is guaranteed an appointment.

Please let all know when it actually arrives....

Waiverable....
USNA believes his merits overcome his medical non-perfect condition.

I am not sure if the conditional in this case has to do with his vision, but all LOAs at this point are conditional to an extent because they reserve the right to withdraw it the candidate doesn't get a nomination, grades go down, the candidate suddenly becomes medically disqualified, etc. Has your son completed his application. They can also grant LOAs to those who haven't finished their application, but can take it away if it is never finished.

Our son had everything in by the end of August.

I'm pleased to report that our son received an LOA in the mail yesterday afternoon. Although he is "guaranteed an offer of appointment", it is dependant on receiving a nomination. The word we have from his BGO is that any applicant that receives an LOA will be assured of a nomination. We will keep our fingers crossed. Thank you all for your encouragement and support!

Those with LOAs are not assured nominations although it is very unlikely that he won't get one, especially since he is the first one on this forum to get one.

Congrats! Good Luck on the nomination.
Glad to see the LOA's have started flowing.
Out of curiosity, where (State) was the letter received? TIA

This forum is just a tiny sample of applicants and hopeful future parents. Too bad USNA or USNAparents or USNA-Net.org don't provide a link to this or start their own candidate forums. It would be nice to get lots of folks.

How Awesome for you and your son!! At last we have a 'confirmed sighting!!' :-) Yipee!!

So tell us about your son - is he an athlete? What kind of kid is he? Did he go to Summer Seminar?

3106: CONGRATULATIONS! and a job well done to your son! 2010 is going to be an awesome class!!!!

For background info on our son see my post of 9/1/05 under the thread "Chances of Getting In". He did attend NASS. Thank you all again for your support.

Thanks 3106.
Wow, you must be very proud! Best of Luck!

3106: any interest in continuing with Navy Lax?

He is VERY interested in Navy Lax and plays goalie. However he did not emphasize this in his application, nor has he had any contact with the Coaches.

My daughter, too, recently received an LOA. Ironically, dated on her 17th birthday (totally trumping the birthday presents her dad and I gave her...lol!) She still hasn't touched ground.

Good luck to all--attending the Academy is a terrific aspiration.

To you proud parents of kids with LOA's....did they also get CVW invites? Or it a case of either/or?? Our BGO keeps hinting that we should expect an LOA and a CVW...we got the CVW yesterday, but does anyone have a clue about whether this means not to expect an LOA??

Both the LOA and the CVW were contained in the same letter.

My daughter got the CVW letter first, then a day or so later, the LOA (which also invited her to a CVW). Good luck...what a ride this is, huh?

Duke: congrats to your daughter! Just think- only 262 days until I-Day!
