LOAs

Letter dates for LOA's anyone? I'm bored.

you've got to be kidding.

Hi, my name is Shawna, and I'm from Boston, MA. I received my LOA this past Monday (dated 9/27/05); I got the CVW the Friday before. I attended Summer Seminar as well. The only thing I'm waiting for is nomination/DoDMERB.

congrats to you

boston usmc: congratulations!

Congrats Shawna
so tell us about yourself and why USNA selected you already! This is something to be really pleased and proud about!

thank you guys!

If you REALLY want to know about me, I'll share a bit (not to bore you though!). I'll only include these things because they might help explain reasons for my LOA.

FYI, I'm not trying to brag or anything; you asked!

I go to a highly competitive exam school in Boston. I'm Senior Class president, Student Council president, an anchor on my school's morning news show, a competitor in Public and Prize Declamation (in English and in Mandarin Chinese), co-chair of prom committee, coordinator/captain of the annual Powderpuff Football game, a member of my school's Concert Band (which I'm terrible at!), and I take five hours of dance classes a week. I'm in many other organizations, like student advisory councils to my state's Board of Ed. I volunteer at school during the summer at my school's orientation, and during the school year in the Athletic Department office.

Athletically, I'm a three season varsity athlete. For two of those seasons (indoor and outdoor track) I've been captain, and a league all-star. For the third season (golf), I'm one of two girls on the team, since we only have a boys team.

Academically, I'm a National Merit Scholarship Commended Student, and I've won a lot of stuff in science fairs, National Latin Exam, National Greek Exam, etc. It's actually interesting with the academics, because my curriculum throughout my high school years has been very classically-based: since our school starts in 7th grade, I've had six years of Latin, 2 years of Greek, and 4 years of Mandarin Chinese. I thought that my lack of advanced courses in science would hurt me, as well as not taking calculus (the highest math I took was pre-calculus, and this year I'm in AP stats). I'm really looking forward to what this scientifically-based curriculum will be like if I attend the Academy; it will be different from what I'm used to, but I'm excited. As for GPA, it actually wasn't totally high, but I go to a VERY competitive school, so I think that that and my SATs made up for that.

I REALLLLLLLLLY want to be a Marine; I love everything they represent and what they do, and I can't wait to be one of "the few, the proud". Hopefully the Academy will be the way to go.

What about everyone else? I just joined this forum thing, and I've been reading posts but I don't know a lot about the other type of people applying. Anyone else from the Boston Area, or from Summer Seminar Session 1? Please let me know; sorry if I'm asking you to repeat something you've already posted!
