Hi. I've never used a site like this, but i saw it on google and thought it looked cool. With luck (and a nomination), i'll be going to USNA next year. (i recieved a "guarentee of appointment" if i passed my dodmerb and got a nomination). Do you guys have any advice on the next step? (probably physical and mental preparation, if you can prepare for something like this) also--did anyone attend NASS session 3?

It's always females getting the LOA's on this website...

But even if I got one I'd still go to USMMA. We do it right. You want a real plebe year, come here.

Actually your statement is incorrect. My son received an LOA from the USNA.

Usna-aviationgirl, you haven't responded since Sunday (probably celebrating!) Did you get offered an Appointment! We're all waiting with baited breath!

3106- Is your son a recruited athlete? DavyGravy's post re: girls getting LOA's seems like that is pretty much what I was wondering? What about minority candidates?Perhaps, candidatemom or Katelewis can provide input. Also, I was wondering if a candidate receives an LOA, is there anything that blocks appointment other than DODMERB,CFA, or Nomination issues? What about BGO interviews? Also are there a certain number of vision waivers?

I'm just settling in to the fact that its going to be a long wait!

Oregon Mom, other things can cause an offer to be retracted, including BGO input, slacking grades in the latter part of senior year, any "unfavorable changes" to the record, misrepresentations (not necessarily intentional) on DoDMERB (discovered as late as I-DAY) and/or any new disqualifying condition that is "discovered" during the physicals once there, any injury serious enough to prevent participation in plebe summer....and any other number of things....so still a bit of a way to go.

And yes, get comfortable, 'cause it can be a long wait.....we read somewhere that the USNA is the last of the academies to notify, and found that to be true. So snuggle up with a good book, and hang in there best you can ~ and take some comfort in knowing you've got lots of company to pass the time with!

I had the impression USAFA is even longer, I mean come on, the boards are just starting to meet...

The boards start to meet in early Sept, and I guess if you are the one waiting at the other end of the mailbox (or the parent watching their kid waiting and wondering along with them) then everything seems to take forever, especially after the rush of getting everything out- wow, good thing our son did not apply USAFA, 'cause waiting for the USNA last year was long enough! I like to think that instead of being "slow," they are just being very, very thorough and giving every application their full due....see, now I feel better!

I asked my ALO about when the AF board meets and he said they are the last to meet and start for the first time the week of Oct. 24, but that is for mainly athletes, and then starting this week, Oct. 31, they meet for admitting highly qualified applicants and loa's.

Did any college applicants get an LOA? Do they even give out LOAs to college students before first semester transcript is reported?

From what my BGO has told me, the board will not consider college students' applications until 1st semester/quarter transcripts are reported.

It may be different for Navy (I'm applying to Air Force), but I'm pretty sure that they can review your application as long as everything except college grades/transcripts are in. They can give you a "conditional appointment", that is basically an LOA, except that you have to have satisfactory college grades.

Our son is not a recruited athlete. See our post of 9/1/05 under thread "chances of getting in" for his backgroud.

PatriotCPM, I'm fairly sure they reviewed my file already which were all submitted by September because I received an invitation to CWV. I didn't get any notifications from USNA after that and my BGO doesn't really inform me of these things so I just wanted to know if I didn't get it because college kids don't get LOA until 1st semester grades or because I wasn't that stellar of a candidate.

well, not quite an appointment....but my BGO said that USNA contacted him personally that day saying that my LOA was an 'exceptional one' in that in their view, all my medical things are fine and will be waivered period. and that they are contacting my congressman, senators, and the VP that i am in 'absolute dire need of a nomination' so, my BGO told me that the USNA told him straight out, unless she gets into legal trouble or fail a core class (which would never happen, i'm a straight A student), we'll make sure there's a spot waiting for her.

so i'm happy :)

yea, i am a girl...and i'm also a minority, to answer OregonMom, i'm a korean girl, if thats to say anything

oh, and i'm glad to know that AFA is starting to look this week, i was going to say, they seemed slow...:) and i was stressed b/c my eng teach rec got lost in the mail, she sent it in August & they still didnt receive it, so she had to send it agian...that was such a pain

random question, in general, is it unlikely that more than one person from the SAME SCHOOl gets into a service academy?

OK, what you should expect in the mail then is the LOA in hard copy explaining what your BGO said....It's not an appointment. Plan on contacting your Congressman's office about when they have their interviews for nominations. YOu don't want to be busy that day!! Then make sure you haven't passed your Senator's deadlines for submission of applications to them for a nomination.

If your DoDMERB is done and your BGO interview is done, than all that's left is your nomination interview. If you don't have a parent who is on Active Duty - you don't qualify for a Presidential nomination- hence the need to work with Members of Congress.

God Bless your planning!!

yea...i know....i've already done the interview...STILL waiting on dodmerb, i just have contacts

usna_aviationgirl - Thats great news! Hang in there with all the paperwork. You're gonna look good in whites!

lizgirl06 - Congrats to you too!! Hope all goes well with Dodmerb for you both! Stay healthy and get in shape!

usna_aviationgirl to answer your question "random question, in general, is it unlikely that more than one person from the SAME SCHOOl gets into a service academy?"

When my son was appointed for the USAFA class of 2008, there were 3 others from his high school who also received appointments. One turned his appointment down and the other 3 accepted. So it can happen.

Regarding Minorities: I'm a Mexican-Puerto Rican Navy Brat and I've received an acceptance letter to NAPS already.

FYI
