do local transfer students have a better chance of getting in to cal poly SLO ?
im attending cabrillo (california), and i want to apply for cal poly this fall.
should i apply while i am attending cabrillo or should i attend Cuesta CC which is a local cc for cal poly. i kno there are different requirements for out of state students, how about out of area students?

i contacted csu fullerton about their gpa admission requirement. he told me it is a 3.5 for out of area students (students not enrolled in they CC in their county)

i heard cabrillo students have it easier when they are applying to ucsc..

do local transfers have a high priority then students who arent locals?

Local CC’s typically have better support services for local universities – like the articulation is usually better, university reps are more frequently on campus, etc. But there isn’t any edge other than that that I’m aware of.

If you can get a 3.5 and complete all major requirements, you’ll be able to attend somewhere better than Cal Poly SLO; UCSD and even UCLA (slimly) are possibilities with a 3.5. I know someone with < 3.5 that got into Cal as an engineering major this year. Then again, if you want an engineering education with a practical emphasis at a relatively cheap price, Cal Poly SLO is a really good place to get it.

Cal Poly SLO seems to accept more students from Cuesta than anywhere else, so it depends on if you really want to go to Cuesta to have a better shot at Cal Poly. most of the more selective CSU’s seem to be focusing on their local region for accepting transfers.

i dont think it matters as much for the UC’s right now, except like empathy said, “the articulation is usually better, university reps are more frequently on campus, etc” so that could always help

You guys sold it to me! Lol
I was iffy about the idea but if cuesta does have a slight advantage. Then I’ll do it! I just hope rent isn’t too much. Lol
3.5 can really open up more door then cal poly?
I thought with a 3.5 I’d still have a hard time getting into the colleges I want.
I’m looking in to: cal poly slo, Fullerton, ucsb, csulb, csun, and northridge. (in that order)

would it affect my admission if I’m taking class online at cabrillo? While attending cuesta?
I really wanna take the acct1b and health a cabrillo.
And
if I am attending cuesta and taking online class at cabrillo. Will cal poly see me as a cuesta student or cabrillo?

with a 3.0 you can TAG into all the UC’s except UCLA and Berkeley, and for those schools you’d want a 3.8+ i’d say.

i think a 3.5+ will open up a lot of options for you

thnx for the info ollie!

i forgot to ask…
on a range from 1-10, would it help alot or a little; if i were to transfer out of cuesta?
do you guys recommend me transfer out of cabrillo or cuesta?

Why are you so set on SLO? I’ve done a lot of partying down there. It’s nice, but not THAT great.

i just heard it a good business school. im interested in all the csus and ucsb. i like slo because its right in the middle. 2 hours north from home and 2 hours south from sb (gf is attending).
