Losing concentration during CR excerpts

I sometimes lose concentration during some of the reading excerpts, most of them I am alright through, but towards the end of the test if there is one really boring one I find myself rereading it. Do you have any tips to hold concentration, and what should I do if I find myself barely comprehending it do to boredom? Thank you for the tips, I have tried different things and gotten better at not getting bored, but any other tips would be appreciated.

well, you can write points down on the test packet. it gives you something to do while you're bored out of your mind from the passage.

then again, you could also just remember your whole future depends on this test (however untrue that statement is) and that you better focus. =P

I've usually had trouble with CR for the same reasons. On the March SAT, whenever I felt my attention was waning, I wrote "future" on my test booklet, because really, my future depended on getting a good score on that SAT. I ended up getting an 800 CR (100 up from PSAT), so it must've worked.

UNDERLINE as you read!

think of the CR passage as a life and death situation....

Underline or jot notes as you read

this is the biggest problem I have!
if my attention drifts, it's really a mammoth task getting it back, sometimes I read the whole passage and then I realise that I havent read it at all! What should I do then? Time is of concern, and those 850 word passages, are definitely time-consuming! this is solely why I prefer the Writing SectioN!

Tyrosine, the amino acid, can help you focus; take about 500 mg (GNC has it or other places). But you should test this for your reaction first; it makes some people wound up and others it does nothing for. Take some a half hour before you eat something when getting up in the morning. And eat a meal with a fair amount of protein included (avoid lots of sugar and bread) and eat raisins and nuts periodically during the test.

Otherwise, do what the people above suggested, but I would advise against overlooking the possible physical reasons for your lack of concentration. At least none of these things can hurt.

don't take drugs.. I'm serious...

i have the same problem and bombed the CR section on the psat for that reason :(
