Hi. I followed the website's instructions to look at scholarships, but literally every one on the link was for obscure stuff like being from a certain highschool or being the child of a tobacco grower (seriously). So are there standard merit based scholarships, and how do you apply?
Insight is appreciated, thanks!

Take a look at this thread. It lists college-based merit money, which is a nice way to get merit money.

Look for scholarships offered from your college/department/major. I know CLAHS has a page on their departmental website just for scholarships, so others may have the same. Your advisor could help you out as well, I know mine has sent out a few major-specific scholarships offered at Tech.

Depending on your major there are some random scholarships you don’t apply for, but just receive. I know business majors who were granted $7500 after they were accepted in the mail. Also, I know someone in Engineering who was emailed after his first semester telling his he won some $3000 scholarship even though he did not apply for it. So if you do have very good grades sometimes they just give you scholarships.

Also, there are definitely merit based Engineering scholarships, I believe the application opens soon. You should be able to find more on the vt website.

Thanks hokiefan! That’s what I was thinking, but I wanted to be sure they didn’t require applications.
