Filling up UC application and depressed by my low GPAs.
Planned to apply Arts & Science in UC.
UC’s tend to be GPA focused so below a 4.0 capped weighted will impact your chances. Good news is that your competitive HS, test scores, HS course rigor, essays and EC’s will all be taken into consideration.
I think UCD, UCI and UCSB will a 50/50 chance based on academics alone. Your test scores definitely show you are a competitive and capable applicant. Best of luck and some UC admit data is posted below.
2018 Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 capped weighted and not major specific:
UCB: 10%
UCLA: 9%
UCSD: 34%
UCSB: 38%
UCD: 41%
UCI: 38%
UCSC: 70%
UCR: 84%
UCM: 95%
your capped GPA makes this a tough call - UCs are supposed to consider your HS’s rigor. In practice, that’s tough with 80k+ applications coming into the more competitive UCs. On a stats basis, you are likely to get into UCR and UCM, UCSC will be a coin toss, the rest could happen but will be a stretch.
I know, not much help but, i’d strongly encourage you to also apply to a couple of CSUs - SDSU, CSULB would be good. I’d also apply to a few privates - USD and LMU, for example, are highly likely to offer you enough aid to make them attractive options.
@Ifthen . . . there’s no need to be depressed. You have very good stats; if for nothing else – and I don’t think it’ll come down to this, there’s a UC that has to take you…
Here’s a dashboard of source-school applications and acceptances to UC:
My friend got into Berkeley with a 3.9 1490 he got rejected from every other uc except for Davis . He had good ECs and fantastic essays so it is possible.
