Hi everybody, I’m a senior who is going to start applying soon to a couple of csu’s and UC’s . I want to major in criminology and as of right now I have a 2.87 GPA but by the end of this semester hopefully I will get it up to a 3.0 . I was wondering what are my chances of getting into a UC like UC irvine or CSU’s like CSU long beach with my also doing extracurricular activities such as volunteering and also being in leadership at my school. If there are also any stories that people can share of being accepted into a UC or CSU with a GPA similar to mine that would be great.
Since you need a 3.0 as an in-state applicant to qualify for the UC system, you’ll probably want to look elsewhere.
There are probably several CSUs to consider but without your SAT/ACT I’d just be guessing. Perhaps Sac and SF State…
Long Beach is very competitive. I would also suggest the CSUs that are less impacted.
All the CSU’s (except SLO) use the eligibility index to rank their applicants. First calculate your CSU GPA: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-admissions/1799390-applying-to-schools.html#latest
Then use this formula(s) to calculate your EI:
(CSU GPA x800) + (SAT Math+CR) or (CSU GPA x200) + (ACT comp x10).
For CSULB, you want around a 3900-4000 SAT EI or a 900-1000 ACT EI to be competitive.
As stated in above post by @NCalrent, you need a minimum UC GPA of 3.0 to apply in-state and at that minimum, UCM may be the only UC where your chances for an acceptance would be good.
There are many Cal states that would gladly accept you, so do the calculations and come back with your stats.
Good Luck.
