Based on my experience, tours, etc, this past few months:

DePaul is closer to the city, in fact it’s in the city. Loyola’s campus is still right within reach, and 10x more attractive.

Loyola gives much, much better financial/merit aid. I received a $6,000 scholarship per year at loyola, plus a $11,500 grant for the first year at Loyola. No grants or scholarships at DePaul.

I’d say both housing and academics go to Loyola, too. But thats just a personal preference.

DePaul has a far better location, just an ideal neighborhood for young people. But Loyola has a far better campus, and IMHO a real residential campus life that DePaul largely lacks.

Loyola being a Jesuit school is an advantage in my book. It seems to have a real effect on the spirit of intellectual freedom and inquiry.

I haven’t been to either but applied to both and was accepted with about equal financial aid packages that were alright. They’re both very much have access to basically all of Chicago so I don’t think that affects to much.

I know two people who are at Loyola and two at DePaul. This may be way off, but I’ll tell you what I’ve noticed about them.

The two at DePaul absolutely love it. They talk about the great classes, great people, and a great social life. Both are staying up there all summer; one for an internship the school helped her find and one to take summer classes because he loves it there so much.

The two at Loyola seem to have no social life and haven’t made many friends. Neither really like the school too much and they are always complaining about the classes. Both will be home for the summer.

This could just be their personalities and that would have happened no matter what school they were at, but that’s just what I have been told by them.
Hope it helps a little :)

well vociferous, it’s good thing that Loyola costs more isn’t it?

I will be attending DePaul in the Fall (hey that rhymed) as a freshman. I know a lot of people who have also said that Loyola DOESN’T HAVE A SOCIAL LIFE. So while Loyola may be a little higher than DePaul academic wise, go to DePaul unless you plan on studying all day every day.
