so when do we find out?

the website says april 10...which is too far away! lol

maybe it'll be sooner. crosses fingers

The website says that they will mail the results on april 10th. So, (unless you live at MIT) it sounds like we'll hear after the 10th.

i swear, if this waiting is getting to me...college admissions waiting will drive me crazy!!!! good luck to everyone! i hope everyone here gets in this summer :)

thank you tennis :). Hey, if we all do get in we've got a head start on making new friends :)

haha this chat reminds me of last year. It's great to talk to people online before you go. Most of us (5-10) that were talking on the boards got in, and so the first day at WTP we all knew each other.

I was in the EECS, and had no research or experience in EECS. Please don't worry if your grades are "good" enough, I'm sure you're all bright enough seeing that you're willing to give up a month of your summer to science. And, two of my good friends from the program were originally waitlisted, and then got accepted (so if you are waitlisted, there's hope).

It's an amazing experience. There are 5 of us that still keep in touch on a daily basis through email. Just the other week we reached our "500th email" mark. Luckily, 4 of us got into MIT, and so we'll be going to the Campus Preview Weekend together, staying with none other than one of our tutors (sophmore).

Of course the homework gets tedious and all, but there are no grades, and you have alot of support (you're encouraged to work together). I really encourage going. Though I know the people at MITES and RSI, and probably other programs, had just as great of an experience.

I can't promise I'll be back to the boards soon, but if any of you have any questions- I'll try my best to help answer them.

It's not that hard. I applied to RSI and I got rejected. My twin sister that same year applied to WTP and was rejected because she was "overqualified."

My sister and I have both similar resumes. So you can compare the difficulty.

Well, even without an MIT camp, I still was accepted to MIT. I know a friend who was in WTP last summer and was rejected from MIT this year.

So don't worry if you don't get in. Just do the best you can!

Oh, I've also heard that you'll be rejected if you're over qualified. This is meant to be an introduction to EECS. If you've taken AP Computer Science and done and independent study in EE, of course you don't wanna spend 3000 dollars relearning everything.

Though don't freak out if you've taken Comp Sci. cause I know at least 3 kids last year who had already taken Comp. Sci

lol to be honest with ya krica.. I don't like the idea of spending 3000 dollars regardless of what its for. (Although a trip to Europe might be nice.) My knowledge of computers includes knowing how to turn it on.. and err.. well that's about it. :D

it's wonderful to hear how people stay in touch

I'm pretty sure WTP offers financial aid if you need it and request it. You get a 500$ meal card, so 2500 for room and board, lessons, and essentially a vacation for a month isn't too too bad :-P I guess I'm lucky in that my parents paid for it and all, but honestly, looking back, I would spend 3000$ of my own money to have that experience all over again (which would suck of course...since it would be blowing all of the money I earned the last two summers working at a day camp)

yeah I requested the financial aid. If I get in I know I won't regret the money I spent on it. I toured the campus last summer.. it was such a great atmosphere.

Hi guys! This WTP thread is making me nostalgic, heehee--like krica and vpl, I was a part of their program, EECS, (vpl, who are you?) and I'm krica's afore-mentioned waitlisted-acceptee. (hi krica!) Side note: Don't give up your place on the waitlist. I almost did, but wow, thank goodness I didn't.

I'd expand more on what an amazing program it is, (feel free to ask any questions; any of us floating WTP alum would looovee to answer them) but I think it'd be nicer to wait until you get your decsions--then you guys'll be all excited and happy and ready to spend the best summer of your life over at MIT.

I skimmed this thread, but I totally agree with krica--grades, stats, they aren't everything, so really, don't worry. I can guarantee that I had THE lowest PSAT scores out of all of the WTPers (no, I'm not kidding. Don't even ask what they were.) but I think in the long run, my teacher recs, essays, etc saved me from a flat-out rejection.

It sounds like you guys had a pretty strenuous app! We had three essays last year--something about MIT's admissions statement..no wait...not admissions statement, but you know, OH Mission Statement, why EECS and some activity you really like. Oh, and to whoever asked about the 'what you do for fun' question--it totally was! 100 words, short answer question for MIT's app.

Regarding financial aid, I'm not entirely sure how generous WTP is--I actually went for half off, (1500 $) but that's because they recognized my travel costs would be 'significantly higher than other participants' or something, so that was really nice of them.

the travel costs isnt the big expense for me, its the 3000 bucks thats the issue. Although............. I went shopping today.. and spent around $60. And I do that quite often because, well, I'm a girl, and I like to shop :). if I get in I'm going to have to not go on so many shopping extravaganzas :(.

6 more days until letters are mailed...
the closer it gets the more i think i won't make it

pfft.. Be POSITIVE! A negative attitude won't get you anywhere. You'd be amazed what the power of positive thinking can do.

Oooh! WTP '07ers! haha. Like vpl (who are you?), krica (hey!!!), and scooby (hey!!! again), I went last summer...it was soo amazing. We had a thread like this going in the MIT forum, I think, because this forum wasn't up yet. Go dig it up if you like - it's pretty hilarious. But yeah, everyone's said what I want to say so it's kind of pointless - WTP's awesome. You should all go if you get in. It's definitely worth the money. It is NOT, however, guaranteed admission to MIT. I think like 18 people from WTP (ME and EECS combined) got rejected from MIT this year (myself included...oh well). They do write you recs, though, and I know those recs helped me get into most of the schools I ended up getting into.

But yeah, it's an AWESOME program. And test scores don't matter much. Mine were pretty bad. Oh, for financial aid, I applied just for the heck of it and actually got some money off, so if you really need it you're likely to get money off.

Soo.. the song Malaguena is permanently stuck in my head. It's the song I'm conducting for drum major try outs.. woooooo. It seems like everything is happening this next week. Tell ya what though.. the added stress is taking off the stress of whether or not I'm going to get in.

are they being mailed exactly on the 10th? any chance we'll get them sooner??? lol i just want the waiting to be over, whether it's an accept or a reject...(and i can start planning other things, if needed)
